Just looking for experiences with different fenders and fender flares for a TJ. Flat fenders the way to go? Do you need flares in the front? What about flares in the rear?

Reasonable people will disagree.

Me personally? I don't want to get sprayed with crap every time the tires get wet.

That was my thinking as well. Do the stock flares hold up? I jus tthink a rock or tree is going to jump out and take one off.

Most any flare you put on there is going to get damaged. I would imagine that some brands probably are much more durable than stock, but dont have firsthand knowledge of them. I know it can be expensive, but I would look at kit like the gen-right system that raises the fender in the front and opens the wheel well in the rear. 35-37" tires with a relatively stock suspension can be doable with that set up.

if it gets taken off..just buy another one.Damn things come up for sale all the time Clay. You sweatin the small doody now.

I have had a tj with flat flares in the front that were even with the body, it allways seemed the doors were coverd in crap even in light wet stuff. If you do look at solid flat flares take advantage of doing so and highline/ give yourself more tire room, this will help give more tire room and need of less lift, personaly I like a low stable rig much more than tall and unstable.

And like Jimmy said , if you tear off a stock one they are cheap or free to replace.

I have genright tube fenders with the 3 inch flares all the way around. They keep the windshield clean and are tough ( ask the tree I rubbed in Windrock).

I have the metal cloaks front and rear on my TJ. They are very strong you can stand on them with no issues at all. The downside is they are expensive, but they are cool because you can take the flare off if you want. If you decide to get bushwacker flares they are plastic and after a few years they do crack where the bolts hold them to the fenders.

Ive put mine on many trees and rocks in the past and will probably put them on many more and they have held up fine. Yeah they are faded and have scars but they are doing better than my sheetmetal.
