i'm currently working on a V8 jeep project. my old man just put a ZZ4 crate 350 in his wrangler. id like to see other jeep wranglers with V8's.

i have a 99 jeep wrangler. i just picked up a 8.1 (496ci) from an 06 chevy truck that i was thinking about using, but theres just not many aftermarket options out there for it. so now i'm thinking about going with an LT1. (if i can trade my 8.1 for one)

i love to see V8 jeeps. keep the pics coming.

Bryan, please explain. I'm new to the NC inspection rules.
so if i install a 96 LT1, it will not pass inspection? I know an LS1 computer (with retunning) will work with my 8.1 so should i just use the 8.1? thanks for all the help and pics.

TECHNICALLY you have to have an engine out of the same year or newer when swapping motors. My engine is 3 years older than my jeep shhh dont tell. Anyway, long story short it has to be obdII compliant, I'm not sure if 96 was or not I don't think so. Could be wrong though. You can't throw any codes when the inspection man plugs his diagnostic machine into your obd port.

the engine having to be the same age as the vehicle or newer is a myth. a 96 lt1 is out of an obd2 vehicle, so you'll be fine using it.

Actually, it isn't a myth it's a law. But one (like many) there are ways around.
