Not me in the pic, Ole buddy of mine rube con back in 07. That girl in the pic just jumped right in the mud and hooked the strap up, we didint even know her. Good Times at the Lexington mud pit
November 15th i went to Uwharrie with a friend. that was the weekend after it rained for 4 days straight. I have been through this a bunch of times before but looks like since the last time a lot of people have been going through it and making it deeper. what sucks is this was at 10am so we spent the rest of the day in wet clothes and on a wet seat. It was only a day trip. next time i will bring change of clothes even on day trips!! i included a picture of my truck out of water from another time so you can c how deep it really is. Needless to say A little deeper than I thought!!
You are lucky you didn't go down the right side. (on your passenger side) It's even deeper there than where you are now. Never go into the soup bowl if the water is calm and undisturbed. It's every bit of 4 feet in most places and where people have been digging it out on the one side there's a "dip" at about 6 ft.
I noticed as i was going in a stick floating and the water was clearer (not as thick and orange as it usally is) but by then it was to late. ha ha very good thing i did not go in that far side i can see how i could be even deeper. i bet it is over my roof there. it was funny though it was my passangers 1st time at URE and every puddle we drove up on after that he jumped out and checked the depth with a stick.. no recovery pictures. my buddy was with me we used both our toe straps and a chain. he pulled me out no problem. it sucked sitting back down in that cold water to get it out of gear. i let it sit for about 15 min. after he pulled me out. when i started it back up a huge splash came out of the exhaust. no problems everything runs great. that makes me think of a question. Is it better to keep the truck running underwater while we're getting the toe straps on or better to turn it off?
Glad to know everything was okay! Didn't look like you got too much water in the engine compartment. Got lucky! A friends kid sunk my four wheeler in that very same spot just two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it's still having issues. Runs, but can't give it gas. Probably just need to clean the carb out. Glad you guys had a good time and g'luck getting that red "silt" out of the interior! hahah I'm still dealing with the mildew smell from the last time I went through there.
Here's an idea of what it looks like with no water in it. My ride height on my XJ is about 5.5" so you can imagine what you'd look like going through it full of water!
wow!! man that is a deep mud hole!! that looks like so much more fun with out water!!! I am very very glad I did not go on that right side!! I was lucky i did not get water in my air intake when the front was where my back tires are in the picture because it is deeper there. the intake was on the high (passenger) side and close to the windshield so i was lucky it mostly stayed out of the water. when were those pix taken? I guess they drain it every once and a while?
You probably didn't get water in your intake because the front of your vehicle tends to plane and push the water away from it. It's when you stop with your front end that far underwater that you run into serious issues. You were lucky you got the nose up before she stuck! heheh
Those pics were taken October 24th, 2009. The weekend before there was water in it, but it hadn't rained that week and the traffic caused it to turn into red soup. There was a good 1-2 feet of thick soupy mud in the hole. I'm sure the hole is even deeper now. It's a popular spot.
I didn't get to try Daniel on the cleanup day, but I almost made it up the first ledge the last time you and I went when I got left behind. Would have made it up no problem if my jeep were running right. Just had no power. Couldn't even get it to spin in the mud in 2wd. Made it up several times prior to that weekend. Wish it weren't closed because I wanted to try it just one more time before the season closed. I suspect they'll probably do some repairs on it over the off season.
