Specifically wandering about sub sonic rounds. I would like a round that bleeds energy very quickly but is still deadly at a range of no more than 30 or 40 feet.

The other round I am interested in is the Glaser safety slug. Seems it was designed for close quarters with bystanders in close proximity.

I don't know about the other round, but I bought a 45 because I liked that a 45 hollow point has a very low chance at being deadly on exit. I know I have been hit in the leg by a richocet off of a piece of metal at about 30ft and other than being hot as hell it didn't hurt me.

Check into DRT ammo cheaper than dirt has it, its expensive but is supposed to be the best home defense round out.

Will a lower velocity bullet with a heavier projectile be less deadly at say 75 feet vs a higher velocity bullet with the same projectile? I think the lowest velocity round I have seen so far is the Federal hi shock.

whats the round that uses compacted powder rather than lead?

the speed of sound is 1128 feet per second almost all 45 acp is under that. so any 230 grain and most 185 grain 45 is going to be sub sonic

What this queer said is correct. .45 will be subsonic even out of a rifle, it also has really terrible penetration as a best-case-scenario fmj round, though almost anything including a safety slug will go through drywall. I've also heard that the safety slugs suck for actually shooting someone and there are many other brands of frangible ammo out there. I would just spend more time at the range and buy some hollowpoints. :flipoff2:

braxton you are too funny. like said earlier it isn't a penetration round. I use federal critical defense in my carry .45, but also like there hydra shock

Federals and Hydra Shocks are my choice too. Soak some thick phone books in water, tie them in a stack and do your own testing. It is a pretty darn close simulation to a human torso.
In the house, I would reach for my short scatter gun first. A face full of bird shot, followed by buck shot is much easier to dispense in a bad, rushed, dimly lit situation. I carry the .45 in the truck and a Berreta Tom Cat if I need a pocket gun. All are on Federal and do all the damage you can expect, if you hit with them.
