Im looking at options on a better stance for one of my trucks. Truck in question is a 97 F150.

I have ran many leveling kits (new tbars/keys) and been semi happy minus the crappy ride. My question is everytime i read about them there are 20million people saying dont do it..It hurts your front susp and puts way to much pressure/load on the parts..They say crank them..Its free and better for it..

Its my opinion that these are just the cheapO's or short cutters that dont want to spend the extra money on a decent set up..Ive always heard that cranking was very bad...

So my question is "Does the leveling kit T-bars/keys put to much load on the parts vs cranking the keys"

Cranking your bars has the exact same effect on everything as running keys. both lead to accelerated wear on joints, and accomplish the exact same thing.

Keys and new bars are no better or no worse in any way for your truck than just cranking the stock bars the same amount. One way the keys could possibly be worse is that they allow you to crank even farther than the stock keys, meaning you could be that much harder on parts.

so my verdict is" crank them, it is free, and it isn't any worse than leveling kits"

What he said. They do the same thing. If you're reading this stuff on a brand specific forum then its probably because it's 15 year olds posting it. Either way, not the best way to lift an ifs truck.

I agree with Awespence and braxton357.

In addition, I would suspect that an aftermarket torsion bar is probably stiffer, making the suspension ride worse.

but why pay for re-indexed bars when you can re-index your stock bars for free(AKA crank them) and maintain decent spring rate?

I see not one reason to spend money on new torsion bars unless you have heavy accessories and need a higher spring rate. could MAYBE see buying keys, if your stock ones didn't allow you to crank as far as you wanted.

All that said, cranking your torsion bars is a pretty bad idea anyway, BTDT.
