Why do folks have to lie constantly? Is truth and honesty dead?

I bought my JKU in 2015. The dealership will call every six months or so to see if I'm interested in an upgrade/trade.

Today, got the call....salesslime says that their general manager is looking for a Rubicon for his personal use, and looking back thru their sales records, found that I happened to have purchased the EXACT model and color he wants, and the GM will personally give me a great deal on a trade.

Raise your hand if you believe that bullshit.

I'm like, well, I'd just order pretty much exactly the same as I got now, and the 2018 redesign is supposed to be way better than the '15, so his boss ought not act stupid, and buy a new one. But....if he really wanted mine, I'd swap even for a 2018 model, to my specs. Somehow, I'm not expecting a call back tomorrow.

I get the 'We want to buy back your ....' all the time. Got one this week for my 2009 G8 GT that went to this dealership 7 times before I got fed up with it and traded it (2.5 years ago). Thought about calling the salesmen and telling him if I still had the piece of shit I'd be glad to sell it to you.

I get that call every so often too. Never get a call back when I tell them what I’d sell it for. Wonder when they will quit calling.

I hate most car dealers. Most are nearly as bad as attorneys.

Start a thread asking people what fuel mileage they get.

I don't know what it is about fuel mileage, but good folks become some lying liars when they start telling you what their truck gets.

"Yeah, it's a mildly-built 454 with 4.56's, 35's and I get about 17 on the highway" {warning: hyperbole in use in that example}

Literally on the Squarebody FB page recently, there were lies like this:

"1978 k10 on k30 axles junkyard 383 turbo350 fully locked 456 gears and roughly 12 to 14 mpg"

"73 k20 95 350 slightly cammed out not sure on the build turbo 350 stage 3 shift kits 14-bolt rear 44 front with 410 gears on 315s and I'm averaging 16 to 18 miles a gallon empty on the freeway and about 10 to 12 Towing"

Yeah, sure you are

They buy-back thing didn't bother me....it was the story. Sure, I really believe that the GM wants to buy MY specific JKU for his personal use.

It just bugs me, are they that stupid, or do they think we are that stupid (or, are there enough stupid people out there that fall for this, and it works).

We bought a Linc MKX for my mom a couple years ago from Crossroads Ford. 13 days after purchase, we got the first trade-in offer call, from Crossroads.

I like when people tell me an LB7 gets 25 mpg. Pfft...no way in hell, especially not with a stock transmission. The torque converters are WAY too loose.

I recently told the car salesman he was so full of shit his eyes were brown, while sitting in his office buying a vehicle.

I just let them waste their breath and don’t believe anything and buy if it’s a fair deal and don’t if it’s not.

I recently had someone from the dealer where I bought 2015 Ram 2500 from call and try to get me to trade it in. Apparently someone wanted a manual tranny Cummins...
They wanted me to trade mine in towards an 18 so they could sell mine to their potential customer.
I said sure, but you have to match my current payment. I said that knowing car dealers LOVE when you base your purchase off of monthly payment amount. That way they can manipulate cost and financing.
When they asked what my payment is I told them $0.
They didn't have much to say after that...

You need to play the car salesman game, first wait for the right weather, 34 and raining. Second drive slowly around the lot stopping and window shopping from a nice warm vehicle. Lure the salesman outside and see how long you can keep him standing in the rain, they never carry an umbrella or a proper jacket. Hint don't get out, keep wandering the lot with salesman in tow!

My wife's Mazda5 has several dents in it (b/c she seems to have a knack for parking in places where people will hit it with things) and scratches from grazed mailboxes, rubbing curbs... you name it. Not a clean q-panel on it.
We got one of those letters, something to the tune of, "We're having a high demand for your exact trim choice of car, we'll pay top dollar, blah blah"
I said, Hot Damn and took the letter to the dealer. When the salesmen saw the car you should have seen his face. He back pedaled on that real quick. I told him to stop sending us BS they weren't really ready to back up and stop wasting everybody's time. No more letters since then. Although I suspect it's really b/c the car is now too old to be worth reselling anyway.
