Dropping a diesel from a Liberty into a Wrangler...

Anyone do this yet?

Anyone think this would be a good swap or a waste of time swap?

I figured since it came from a Jeep, it might (stress the might) be a simple swap.

I am thinking of dropping a diesel into my '00 Wrangler and am just feeling it out to hear from experienced swappers first...

grab a 4liter bseries, cheaper, better power

I don't know much about the CRD in the Liberty. I do know that they're like hen's teeth around here, thus probably expensive. It's probably a pretty complicated system utilizing high-pressure injectors, possibly electronic, not like a Cummins. I also know they pull like hell! My dad sold a boat to a guy who came to check it out in a diesel Liberty. My dad chuckled and thought he was going home to get the tow rig. Instead, they hitched up to the Liberty for a test pull. He said it pulled harder than his Suburban ever did! They were able to get it fast enough that Dad was scared, quickly enough that he was impressed. If you can find one cheap with everything needed to make it run, I'd try it. It seems to be a pretty wicked motor.

To qualify my above statement.
I have driven 1 CRD Liberty. One of the guys in our parts dept. has one, and I drove it once to meet him at the airport when he parked it at the branch over night.
Not sure of mileage, maintenance, or history (honestly the guy is kind of slack on most stuff so probably not good) but it was less than stellar. It felt torquey on take off, but seemed to take forever to get up to speed. Again it coculd be a one off or could have other issues, thats what I based my under powered comment on.

But if you want electronic injectors, multi pulse sprays and dynamic timing, there is a b-series out there that can has it.
