Liberty SAS

but damn its still a liberty

man i wasn't trying to a :poop:head i just noticed it and hoped you did too before you wasted money or someone got hurt

Ok cheif, I will just go back to web-fabbing then. :shaking: I have built enough link suspensions to know the shock hitting the frame isnt right. Glad its getting fixed and the rest of the fab looks good. Why the dana 30? A 44 seems more to suite.

I never said i could fab...good. Just semi-stick stuff together with a welder. You cant throw around name calling till you atleast start on another rig. :flipoff2:

Just so all the web fabbers can sleep at night i took the shock pic down, its being fixed as we speak. Just got to move the upper shock mount outwards about an 1". What would i do without all the web fabbers/wheelers input?
Since you're fixing it, it appears all those web fabbers that got under your skin were right.

wow...that does look great for a liberty! nice stance!

glad you are taking care of the shock.

Good looking work, if the clearance for the coilover is an issue in the end you can notch the unibody rails, and fill in with similar material, in a countour like you'd need a portion of the rails from a junker where it kicks up in the rear makes a good filler plate as it is the same material. I wouldn't notch it unless it absolutely had to be done though, moving the upper mount is the better solution if you can get the needed clearance there.

i choosed a hp 30 because i was only runing 33's,for now...i had a dam good price on it...and a hp30 built is as strong as a 44... after i wheel this for a while and get anoher daily driver...i'm going full widths and maybe 36-38" tire range...that's a good year away...don't worrie guys i'm keeping the guy on his toes...

it's "chose" not "choosed"

now you owe me a beer

lol....but erik i choo choo chose you...beer thursday? somplace on market?

...and a hp30 built is as strong as a 44...
That's like me saying my built 44 is as strong as a 60. Sounds good, but just ignoring the truth. You gotta consider the size differences of the ball joints, ring and pinion, bearings, ect... I do like your liberty, though. It's the first time I've ever seen one that looks that good.

a stock 30 could handle 33's, locked, without any worries.... and with some common sense and driver skill a 30 locked on 35's is strong enough for most terrain... some chromo bling and the 30 would be more axle than most people would ever need on their daily driver / weekend warrior. hell i see people beat on them with 37's and run without any issues....

james... beer... thursday... beach bars or liquid... yummy.

lol you choose...give me a call...and yeah i like it alot...2 things i noticed about driving thi thing....1st people just look as i drive by and its kind of funny...others don't even relize that their is a straight axle under it...i'm really tired of explaining why i took out the weak independent and did the swap...lol it was realy funny when i stoped by at screwirth to check a part...some ppl there were like "so that's what a 5 inch lift kit"...i said "nope a 3" lowering kit" lol

I am not a KJ fan at all, but that is a cool rig. Nice build.

No body seems to relize that when doing a swap like this that everything is a compromise, liberty's weren't meant to have a solid front axle and steering box. So of course everything can't be perfect its all about compromises to get everything work as good as it possibly can. We're still working out the bugs but it should be good to go in a day or so.
My goal with this was to fit the 33's without making the rig stupid high and top heavy looking( i hate tall rigs), It handles really well and doesn't seem top heavy at all
Now i'm swapping the front tcase output with a TJ one so we can use a TJ front driveshaft, fixing the shock mounts.
Here's some pics next to the stock liberty

I guess you would have fucked up a set of somebody elses coilovers without us(if you didn't already). I think everyone does realize the complications that come up when doing a SAS even with a unibody. Its not like nissans, toys, fords, and chevys haven't been swapped for years. If you don't want people to judge your work then don't post it up, that way no one can tell you the things you've done wrong and you can go on thinking you're the best fabricator on the east coast.

Now for the next issue, it appears that the way you mounted the track-bar would limit the amount of articulation you're going to get. I would suggest moving that heim in the vertical position instead of the horizontal position. Unless you have some limit straps or bump stops I can eventually see the track-bar bending or just ripping right off the frame but again you're the "real world" fabricatior here so do what you please.

Good, I wasn't going to be the first to say...

That heim with no misalignment spacers can't possibly misalign more than 7 degrees one way...needs to be vertical...or a horizontal bolt...

"Its a comprimise!" ha ha.. Either ya get it right or you dont IMO. You find out later if you are wrong and I wouldnt want to be on the receiving end of that. But overall, tough conversion and you did a decent looking job for mall crawling. Now on the trails I guess that is TBD. OHV KJ - You wheeled it yet?

I also wasnt going to point out the trac bar but it def needs some work. What was the benifit of mounting it that way anywho? Like i said before...good execution...just need to work on the layout and idea of it working offroad.

Sam, could you come up and give me your expert review of my project? :flipoff2:

I could...but you wouldnt like my answer. :flipoff2:

oh wow! that track bar def needs a vertical mount. if would flex a lot better after the coil overs are moved out

x2 flip the trackbar mount on the frame side and the front end will walk over everything along with the new coilover mounts

Once the tops are moved out, looks like the co's will be sitting right at 90° at rest. Brings its own set of problems, but at least it won't damage things.
