Getting a 4.5 inch lift for my WJ in terms of tires what sizes can I fit. anywhere from fitting fine to even a little triming.

Also with a 4.5 lift do I need anything extra since im going from stock. ( example. extended brake lines )

You should probably be able to clear 33s at that lift. 32s fit with 3.5" of lift and a little trimming, at least on a ZJ.

Tire width will play a factor as well as height in terms of clearance. When I ran 33x10.5" BFG AT's it never rubbed. When I changed over to 33x12.5" Maxxis Bighorns it rubbed pretty bad on the pinch seam in the wheel well. It took some trimming to drive on the street but I had to flatten it against he wheel well to wheel it. I am running a 4.5" RE on my ZJ.

Assuming your lift is new it should come with everything you should need including brake lines, if not, then yes you should get them. What is included in the lift, who's kit are you going to use?

If I was you Id get long arms, or it will look like the above post, it will center everything out for you, and flex like crazy. stock control arms arent long enough for that much lift especially if you want to go offroad alot. and as far as the brake lines you wont need any for a wj, you'll be fine, they are on the axle. and tire size, yeah you can fit 33s but if you have quadradrive with the vari-lock, anything over 32" is supposed to tear them up pretty fast. Im thinking of doing the same height lift but prob IRO or Clayton. Good luck post pics when you're done!!

nalnurocker, lets hear a little more about your jeep and your plans. What do you want the jeep to be able to do? Wheel it hard, or mall-crawl?

The general rule of thumb for WJ's is 32's with 4" of lift. ZJ's and WJ's are completely different animals, so what size fits a ZJ has very little relevance to your situation.

I'm running 33's on 5" of lift and before I got my ARB, I trimmed about 2" off the back of the front fender and at least 2 inches off the stock bumper covers front and rear.

You don't need extended brake lines on a WJ at 4.5", the factory lines are long enough.

Why are you looking at the Rusty's kit? Price or Parts included?

Believe it or not, it does not rub after I took care of the pinch seam in the front wheel well. As the suspension compresses the tires center themselves in the wheel well. It is close but it works fine off road as well as on. I am not familiar with the WJ setup but I will second the use of Clayton kits they have great stuff. Long arms will ride MUCH better on road and flex better off road. You can see the rear lower control arm in he pic, at that angle I have very little down travel compared to a long arm kit. Also, consider how the front control arms are angled on my Jeep, when I hit a bump on the road it is harder for the suspension to absorb the force due to the control arms being much closer to vertical opposed to the stock configuration. A long arm kit will mostly eliminate this issue.

Thanks for the info. I am really new to this. Dont really know what your all talking about but looking into cost a long arm kit is going to make my bank empty fast. Going to need to save up for the next month. For now im going to settle with tires just so I can have a little fun. Think a 30" or 31" will fit it? im going to pick p a used pair just for the next month until I can afford the lift. So a 30 or 31" tire should fit stock what size rim?

PLANS. This will not be wheeled hard. Fishing/hunting some local mud that I own not planning on flipping this or anything. just need some height and tires for some moderate mud(planning on having a cook out and inviting nc4x4 ) price is my main convern. looking at 1,800-2000$$$ Lift and tires.

Again this is on a ZJ, but 30" tires fit on a stock suspension with no trimming; 31" fit with some trimming. I beleive your WJ has 16" rims.

Well goes to show how ignorant I am about WJs. Again this is what I have heard, but I don't think it is recommended to put 15" on a WJ due to rotor clearance. For cost, I would down size to a 16" wheel because typically tires will be cheaper. For 30s or 31s a 16x8 wheel should be fine.

This should help you a bit.

spraypaintman, what paint did you use for the cladding, and how is it holding up? <sorry to hijack your thread>

I used the Krylon plastic paint on mine. Sorry no pics but it looks just like spraypaintman's. It is holding up pretty well, I painted them in the spring. I had some issues with one panel but I think I just didn't prepare it properly.

Just used regular gloss spraypaint from the dollar store. Clean everything down with windex and it will stick for years. I had a ZJ a while back I did this to and it held up good.

Nice trick, I was thinking about using Durabak or something like that, but too $$, so this is perfect. I have a 93 so after 15 years the cladding is really faded. So just prep with Windex?

The sell a duplicolor plastic bumper paint at most parts store. I did my zj with it 2.5 years ago.

after: P3190008.jpg

It still looks great today, prep work is key, all oils, waxes, dirt etc need to be cleaned of.
