i got a 76 ford f100 4x4 i cant afford a lift kit. but i want to raise front end about 2.5 inches to level the truck and later go with some bigger tires. what coil springs from a different 4x4 would give me some lift. i thought maybe 78 bronco? they weigh alot more the coils should be stiffer but i dont know. any ideas you can give me? thanks alot have a good one later.........

Back in the day....my Dad wanted to level his '77 F150 and I wanted him to put on 33" tires..........used a set of 3.5" early bronco coils. That was waaaaaay before the progressive rate coils available today. I seem to remember the truck rode just as rough with the bronco lift springs!! I would suggest trying a good set of 3.5 prog. coils for an early bronco-Duffs is in knoxville-cheapest shipping to us. With the heavier weight of the F150 I would stay away from used.

Eb coils are something like 1.5" taller on an EB than an f150/fsb...which is where the .5 came in with the early eb coils (and still continues). You probably won't find a pair of bronco coils for cheaper than f150/fullsize bronco coils though so it's a toss up anyway. Some people have filled their coils with tennis balls for a little extra bit of lift...

tennis balls really?

I know pre '79 Ford Van coil springs are equivelent to 2" lift. Coil spacers are cheap and affective if you double up. Simple to make your own. I made a set to level me F100 2wd front about 5-8 years ago and still holding the front up nicely. 2 bolts (2-3" long), 6 nuts, 2 washers and 2 pieces of 1/4" maybe 3/4" X 2". That beez the recipe for one when you need at least 2 per coil to lift.

You could remove the coil towers and mount them 2" lower on the frame rail. I actually did that on my truck. You could also make a spacer to go under the lower spring cup, and use some longer bolts to mount it to the top of the radius arms.
