Lifting a JK

Hey guys, I know this is a common question, but... I'm putting a 3" lift on a 2012 jk 2 door. Anybody had issues with doing this? Drivelines? This is my daily driver/ weekend wheeler. Any input will be appreciated, thanks.

With a 3 inch you will likely need a new front driveshaft, It might last for a while but the boot will eventually tear. If you are doing a 3 inch make sure whatever lift you are doing includes adjustable control arms( to correct your front caster). It will likely drive bad and will wander around a lot.

This is just my opinioun, dont cheap out on your lift, especially at that height, If you do it will be regretted. Crappy parts brings crappy results. If you are going that tall then I assume you are going to atleast 35,s, if you plan on wheeling often and/or hard, I would suggest adressing your ball joints and consider gusseting the inner c,s. This is cheap insurance down the road.

For the best info on building a Jk, give Carolina Metal Masters a call, they know Jk,s inside and out, can get you the qaulity parts you need and can build the Jeep for you if needed.

Thanks Jason! Any additional info/ suggestions? I Can do the work( except for the alignment), I have two 35's already, waiting to get the other two. already priced driveshafts and sleeves/gussets. This is my DD/ Weekend wheeler, and I'm working on it as my bank account allows haha . Any recommendations on steering? Also, that's an awesome jeep you got there!

P.S. Anybody know where I can get some MALL-APPROVED recovery gear? :bling:

Your factory steering is adeqaute, tie rod is a lot bigger than on a tj,xj. You do need to address your steering stabilizer, it is in abad place slung down below the tie rod and will not last. The best deal out there is the fox 2.0 stabilizer, it comes with a replacement track bar bolt so youwant have any added brackets, you will need a synergy tie rod clamp due to being a 2012 and up jk, on the older models youcould flip up the factory bracket on the tie rod, you cant on a 2012, if you do it will puncture your lower radiator hose. On thesame note, you need to change the bolts in your front track bar anyway( a 3inch lift requires a different front track bar) the factory bolts are 14mm, the hols are 9/16, if the come the least bit loose you will get wacky steering and death wobble. Use new grade 8 9/16 bolts in thier place.

If you do decide to upgrade steering, look at Carolina metal Masters aluminum tie rod wth 1 ton tie rod ends, you can also do a drag link flip at te 3 inch height , tis will keep alot of stress off of your sector shaft, Do not use a drop pitman arm, the only sector shafts breakage Ihave seen have been running drop pitman arms.

You cando the alighnmentyour self, as long as you can read a tape measure you will have no problem.
