Is this type limited slip any good? It is VERY hard to turn one tire and not the other, so it is super tight, and I am thinking of leaving it there if it would be pretty tight off-road.

If it won't last, can I just weld it up, or is it even possible to get a good weld on it to hold?

The stock posi in my 1997 dodge CTD with a Dana 70 seems to work extremely well after 302k (been rebuilt once around 170-190k).

With the very mild offroading I have done with it (a little mud in a field) it will spin both tires and make a rooster tail. Also, Not saying this is a good idea but it can Smoke both tires on dry pavement while doing a brake stand.

However I have no technical data to back this up. IIRC you cannot weld a posi up due to the clutches and what not.

Hope this helps a little.

They are great for a tow rig. ditch it off-road.

Well, that worked out quickly. A friend has a 99 or so Dodge 2500. It had an open diff, now it has a limited slip...

We swapped them out tonight, didn't take too long at all. He didn't even check everything with a dial indicator, or check the mesh pattern, just bolted it in. He knew that he should have, but didn't, not my problem now though.

I probably won't check mine either, but I don't hardly ever drive the truck so it shouldn't matter as long as it doesn't have much play.

I will weld it up tomorrow and drop it in, got u-bolts and made some u-bolt plates today out of 1/2" steel. U-bolts were $32 for 4, 5/8" diameter bolts with nuts/washers at Auto Spring.
