So I'm on LinkedIn. Yeah, whatever. Anyway, I've got people who I have no clue who they are trying to "connect". I can see if a recruiter wants to connect but who the shit is some guy from Arkansas who owns a trucking company? I'm not a trucker by the way. Then I've got some Dentist in California doing the same. WTF am I missing?

sounds like Spam.

I'm not LinkedIn. But I get requests from Vendors and Clients asking me to ... Link(?) with them. Vendors, I ignore, clients I don't want to insult, but I'm not even on LinkedIn.

Depends on how many connections you have.

Ive had name errors where they thought I was someone else and Ive had the guy who wants me as a contact because he was hoping to find someone else inside my company.

Question #2: Why are they asking me to endorse people I've never worked with directly? We've got people here that I know and I work in the same facility but I've never worked with them directly. Do you get some kind of cool points for being endorsed?

I get contacts endorsing me periodically. Many of which are good willed, but many also because they want business from me

For the majority of folks on there, its facebook for the crowd that wants to pretend they dont want facebook.

Not saying it isnt useful, it is, and I've done a lot of business from the connections and info I've found via the site.

But there are a lot of fuckers on there that think they're being hip and cool by driving their connections count up. Stupid.

A childhood friend and I talked a year or so ago and we got onto the topic of LinkedIn. He doesn't have Facebook and works as a contractor for the DOD. He said that by connecting with people you're vouching for their professional career. For example say I'm connected to @shawn. Basically I'm saying he's worth a shit in my opinion as a professional. After I looked at it that way I became pickier about who I connected with.

I dont have facebook but do have linkedin.

If you go to the home screen it will randomly ask you to endorse people for skills it randomly suggests. you can click endorse all and viola.

I think that whole section is stupid, tbh. But know of at least 2 marketing groups that are selling sales companies on the imperative nature of your reps being endorsed as experts on their product line.

I get a lot of connection requests from headhunters, but I also get a lot of connection requests because I'm in racing and people are trying to cozy up as a way to get in the door. I only occasionally get someone who I have no earthly idea why they care about me at all, but I ignore most connection requests anyway.

LinkedIn is for recruiters, HR people, and resume jockeys who jump from job to job. Recruiters and random people contact me all the time on there. I usually ignore them.

Only if you are a gay porn star.
