I'm looking for a local source for the Steering Column bearings for my '78 CJ. I've found the Lower bearing kit online, but still looking for the upper bearing. I really only need the bearings not the kits, and I can't find a part# on the bearings.
Going by make model etc. at the local parts store brings nothing. Any ideas before I oredr from online?

You ought to be able to measure the od/id/etc and find them in NAPA's book -- they (or used to) have a book where you can look up p/n by measurement chart.

well, that was my thought, until I pulled the lower bearing out. the Outer Race has a shoulder to it. It's and odd shaped bearing. Have yet to pull the upper. May be able to do that with it.

thanks

Take it to a bearing suplier. Applied Industrial Technologies in W-S can help you, there are also several suppliers around here. If you can give them dimensions and specs, such as the type of seal if any, then they can hook you up. If you're in doubt, show up at the counter with the bearing and a set of calipers.

Yeah, Ive had good luck with Applied Technologies and Motion Industries around Gastonia and Charlotte. I take em stuff I can't identify, and they bring me a price and a part or delivery date. They can get just about anything.

I've sourced shouldered bearings, bearings with retainer rings, grooves cut in them for clips, and many other variations. There's something out there for you.

well, I got a Nope, but we can charge you an arm and leg to find and order it for you, from Shawn products. Nice Guys though.

Bearing Distributors gave me a WTF kinda bearing is that, when I tried explaining to them it had 2 OD's

I can keep searching, or just order it online for $17 for the kit shipped to my door. screw it, gonna order it.

thanks anyway
