All you grill heads out there, I need some guidance... Wife and I are really making an effort to make sure we are eating the food we spend money on at the grocery store every week and keep us from going out to eat as much. I have been trying to fix different foods and sort of expand our pallet a little more and would like to get some good spices. Been watching "The Hungry Hussey" on youtube (local NC guy) and been inspired to try and introduce some different flavors in my life. Any of you guys and gals recommend any local companies putting out spices/rubs/sauces that are worth checking out? Found a couple of companies out of Asheville, but looking to see what all is out there.

Watching this...

Wife had had to cut sugar/carbs, and we both have cut out salt. Which strikes out many the of the rubs and bbq sauces.

I have gotten to using a lot of the Bone Sucking Cajun rub....low sodium, low sugar and carbs, and iirc, from NC.

Use it on every thing, pork, beef, fish, taters, etc.

I bought jess pryles book last year, and have been really enjoying it. I use to eat out a ton due to not really enjoying the food I made, but her book was really nice to work with. She also explains how to make a lot of the rubs your self and they are really good. Also my wife is on her 90th day of whole thirty, so we could take a rubs from her book and make them whole thirty, so far they have all worked out great.

My favorite Rub is still larue Dillo dust, but you have order things from them to get it.

Very good points. Wife is doing Keto and only does dry rubs and spices and no sauces unless its her cheat day.

Another vote here for the Hardcore Carnivore stuff. It’s from Texas not NC though. I use Black on nearly everything I put on the smoker. Just recently got some of the meatchelada to try and it’s pretty good too.

My wife buys some brand called Old Spice. It smells good, but is kind of pasty. The flavor really sticks with you though. They have it at most grocery stores, but for whatever reason its always on a different aisle than the other spices.
