I have a lock right locker in the rear of my XJ Chysler 8.25 and when i am driving in a straight line the locker, locks and unlocks like i am going around a corner but it clicks real loud and jerks to the left real bad on acceleration if you guys have any advice on what the problem would be please help.

Was it new when you put it in? have you checked the tire pressures L to R?
Auto or 5 speed?

There have been a TON of problems with Lockrights and Powertrax lockers recently. I have had problems in the 8.25 stuff especially.

If I can help with anything give me a shout.

Sounds like you outta pull it out, check everything over, and maybe swap in a new set of springs and pins.

How old is the locker?

The Lockrite in my Dana 35 wore out. The teeth got rounded off enough that it would slip like you describe. I drove it to URE with a few slips on the way. After a day of offroading it was slipping (jerking like you describe) all the time and I had to drive home in front wheel drive.

A buddies went out on him. but his totally let go. here's what the teeth looked like. This is after about 6K or 9K miles, don't recall which.

yours might be on the way out, or like Andy said, different tire pressures, or something else.

I agree with Andy...if it is kicking as bad as you describe, some of the springs/pins may have come loose/broke. I would pull it apart before more damage is done. At least pull the cover and inspect it...see if you see any metal bits in the bottom of the housing.

We had this discussion a year or so ago on SWB... IIRC, the main thing conclusions arrived at by several folks (one a fulltime axle builders...pontiac58) was the tolerances *inside* the carriers being off a ton... Seems it's less vital when using spiders, but will cause issueswith a softlocker (he had a method for checking these tolerances & shiming if needed). The other being in a rear application on a DD that sees a lot of pavement...

caver: i just checked ORC for the post but i guess its gone.........

but im the one brent spoke about..........i think i had it for 1 year and 6k miles on it......its my DD but i drive about 25 miles a week or less in it......but i would never do a lunch-box locker in the rear again cause of the wear/slipping that it sees everyday on a DD........go eather with a true detroit locker, ARB or OX...........i now have a LB locker in my d30 but from what i have been told with the NP231 the front locker see's itsself "open" till the TC is in 4x4...............

The cruiser guys typically shim the LR's up in our carriers to make them harder to unlock.. can you do the same?

Yes, you could replace the shims on the outside fo the lockright that the side gears ride in to get a few more thousandths since the original ones have probably worn.
