This is the third Briggs engine that has locked up on me while mowing the yard. I know the mower is a cheap on from Walmart; but Briggs engines are suppose to be good. The first two where 12hp so I upgraded to 14hp on the last one and it has done the same thing. I don't know if I should buy another engine or just buy a new mower. The mower is in great shape just keeps locking up engines on me:kaioken:. Could there be something wrong with the deck to cause the engines to lock up?

the 12hp and 14 hp briggs ohv motors are junk if you will pull the head off you will see there is no bolts in the middle of the head just on each corner. so being there are no bolts there they will blow head gaskets and the valves will come out . bad part briggs knew about this problem and still sold them .

I did wonder if that might be an issue when I tore the other two engines down to find the problem. I was not aware they knew this was an issue and still put them out in the market "job security" I guess.

Funny thing is...I live right accross the rd. from Mike...have the same mower...and I have never even changed the oil in mine...3 yrs(awful, I konw) and have never had a problem with mine. Thinking about changing the oil, but maybe not...you think my gummed up motor will blow if I change the oil?

Mike...you can borrow mine..again!

ive got an 11hp briggs motor if you'd like....i was gonna build it into a "trail" mower, but if you need it id sell it to ya, def cheaper than you could pick it up....it runs like a champ too....new plug etc...just needs a muffler its LOUD!!!!!!!! its an older mower but like i said it runs good...pm me if your interested

you would be shocked where those Briggs motors are built.
We signed with a small engine builder to produce the engine in our hand held portables a couple of years back and anyone who wanted could go and visit the factory (in China)...well low and behold rolling down the same assembly line and parting ways for plastic and badging were , Robin (subaru brand), Briggs, Gtech, and 9 other "brands" of small 2 cycle engines....

I had the same briggs motor on my mower, thought it blew head gasket, turned out alluminum hollow pushrod broke, easy fixed, I beat the snot out of mine, no problems, other things let go before the motor did, as a matter of fact come get the mower, engine is great, its free. I live in Kernersville.

Are you sure Dillion is not fixin up your lawnmower like he did the bronco?
