I am getting ready to do an axle swap into my YJ (stock wheelbase) and am having a hard time deciding what locker to use in the D60 rear sittin on 37's. I would like something more reliable that a lunchbox locker. Also, I'm not sure that I want a full time locker, like a Detroit, since it will be seeing a good bit of pavement. I like the Auburn ECTED but can't seem to find it for 4.56+ ratios and i've read that the Detroit Electrac has been discontinued. I've also looked at the ARB and OX lockers, but I am not fond of dropping that much for them + even more for the cables/air lines.

What do y'all think? pros/cons on different brands? Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

you will notice a detroit in the back of a yj, take my word for it.

I am currently running a full spool, and it drives 10x better on the road now that it did with a detroit.

However, I am switching to an ARB this week for several reasons.

1st, Chase at East Coast Gear Supply, Cperry is his name on here, is offering them at good deals right now. The ability to do front digs, and use cutting brakes on the trail, in addition to the jeep driving on the road like an open diff (when ARB is off) far outweigh the cost of the ARB, and compressor.

Just my .02

I have run everything over the years except ARBs. Spools, mini spools, Detroits, Lincoln lockers, LockRights, etc. For the money, support, ease of installation, reliability, durability I'd go with the LockRight. You will find people that have had issues with them of course. My experience has been that if they are installed properly they will give good service. Just my .02 :)

Lock-rite all the way, you mentioned wanting something more reliable, but in my opinion there isn't anything more reliable(besides a spool, which i would recommend for the rear anyway). If they were to go bad, you could have it pulled out, rebuilt with new pins and springs , and reinstalled in an hour.

Detroit.
I've had one in my TJ for about five years now and one in my ZJ for about a year. It will not give the same road manners as a ARB but it is cheaper and predictable. If your worried about doing trail maneuvers like front digs then put your money into an Atlas, Dana 300 or some other transfer case that will let you disengage the rear drive line.

I do run a ARB in the front of the TJ for better steering on the trail.
Chase (Cperry) is the one to go to for which ever locker you want. You can't beat his work or customer service.

Lock-Rite

I have had the same lock-rite in the front of my toyota going on 6 years, on 38.5" boggers, longs, flanges, 5.29s, and beat the S#!% out of it! All I have had to do is a pin kit(like 14$). If you catch it early(broke pins) it will most likely live a very long time. I usually inspect mine twice a year. Just pulled it the other week and it showed very little ware. Just my 2 cents

Another post for Chase (Cperry). He installed an ARB front and rear for me in my TJ. Great job and great customer service!

Nobodys asked what spline count you have, cause if youve got the dinky 30's then its time to consider upping the count to 35. Easy to do with a lockright and save the $ for shafts.

x2 except the spool causes tire wear, consider how much you will drive on the street. If you have an auto go Detroit for sure
