I assume its a 9inch instead of welding which ruins the carrier ( lot of naysayers on that but i promise it does) you can buy a 9inch mini spool cheap. I can sell you one with a chromoly cross pin for less then $40. the cross pin and carrier are the weak links in ford 9's. I can sell you a full steel spool for $130.
and then ther are other more expensive locker options. Don't weld a 9 drop in a $20 dollar mini spool.

thanks man i think i will go with the mini spool. how tuff will it be compared to the steel spool? and what about the front what do you have? is the spool difficult to install? thanks

well i decided to go with mini spool for now tight budget out of work in car wreck.but i dont know if i have a 28 spline or 31 spline 9 inch ford rear end ? going to to take rear end housing off tommorow and count splines. is it pretty easy to install or easy to fawk up. thanks for all the info, beer doest make you smarter nc4x4 does! thanks for the help later..........

Like he said, it's a 31 spline. Really should have gone with a full spool, but if you do go mini spool...certainly get the chromo crosspin as well. $40 for both is a pretty damn good deal...

i would definitely do the mini spool for the 9". i had one and loved it.

Lock Right for the the front

I highly recommend getting a full spool for the 9". You WILL brake the center pin with a mini. Just my 2 cents.

This was with 37s.......

locker?

The best way I have found is a full spool in the rear. This is the best value for the $,also it won't wear out the rear tires driving on the street!(unless you drive in tight circles all day long!) The front a FULL detriot. It's really worth the $$. lock rite's are cheaper but they go inside the carrier and eventually the carrier will crack or flex/seperate letting the locker slip. The best thing about the detriot is ,it iS the carrier, and it will rachet around corners when you turn. This is helpfull in the woods/on trails etc. if you have a strait mud runner don't waste the $$,just do a spool.
