I have a j10 that is converted to a j20 that I will be using for towing until I get out of school . I am upgrading the axles to 4.10s and doing a good bit of bolt on upgrades to the engine...intake, carb, engle custom grind cam, hei dist, dual exhaust etc... I would like to put a lock rite in the rear. Why, I dont know other than I think it would be fun to burn both tires at will when not towing. Is this a good idea or should I just leave it open?

I've never driven one with a locker, but have had several with limited slips. Personally, I'd go no better than a LS. Even then on slipper conditions on the road with a trailer, you have to watch out. Once I had the rear step out on me and I wasn't able to catch it until I was in the next lane. Good thing no one was next to me.

Lockers are not made to tow with and I would bet it will cause a lot of problems with heat and turning umder load. The locking and unlocking under load I would think will set it up to fail or make the other parts fail. Go LS if you want something but not a locker.

Why not something like an ARB or other switchable locker

I can get you the best price on a Auburn or recomend somehting as good. Ill PM you some prices and options.

i would also recomend something selectale or LS not a full locker.

you really going to pony up for a LS?? i heard Auburns are pretty pricey... but i guess if you need a carrier anyway for the 4:10's... it should be sweet

yeah i am thinkin of putting an auburn or lock-rite in the rear of mine. i have gotten it stuck twice in the last 3 days cus my vacuum lines are messed up so i got no 4 wheel drive and an open rear end. AHHHHHH F!

I used to have a detroit EZ Locker in the rear of my truck back when I had a 10 bolt, now I have the 14 bolt with the stock gov lock, and I really miss my old locker, maybe the gov lock just sucks but it seems to hardly work at all.

And I had a LS in the front of the 60 that used to be in my Jeep, can't remember brand but it was a decent after market one and it wouldn't ever grab either even with a fresh set of clutches, maybe I just don't have good experience with LSD's?
