Finished putting a detriot locker in the rear with new r&p. Pinion preload is 18inlbs and pattern on ring is almost perfect. The only problem is there is maybe a mm of play when i turn the pinion before it makes contact with the ring. Not sure if its normal or not....

I am in J-ville and can setup gears. In fact, I am setting up 2 Toy gears this weekend. If you need help just let me know.

There should be a little play, but not much. Like .008 for instance. Enough to just "feel" it, but not actually turn your hand. You should see this in the pattern though. How does the depth look. It can be centered, but should also have the correct depth. 2 different things are shown when looking at the markings on the ring. Do you know what your backlash is?
 
im pretty sure it was .006, borrowed a buddies dial a few days ago so i might be wrong. the marking on the coast could be a little deeper, but i can see the entire marking, its not like half of it is off. its exactly how you described it, its no where near a hand turn, just a hair... ill let you know if i need some help, thanks.
