I installed a truptrac in the rear of my yj. When i checked in on the jack it worked fine, but when I drove it major fail. It seems to do fine with no pressure on the drive train when turning, but when pressure is applied, it makes a "ping" sound that rocks the entire Jeep. Directions have been followed to the letter. It seems like it is the clutch teeth on the locker are letting loose and catching on the next tooth. any input?

a true-trac is not a locker... it's a limited slip, and a gear-driven one at that.

You sure you have a true-trac in there? They are silent..

Your behavior sounds like a no-slip/detroit/lock-right with insufficient side gear pre-load.

yes, it is a quick-loc/lock rite design. How do I adjust the side load?? I agree that sounds like the problem though. I followed the directions to the tee and used all of the parts supplied.

Is the locker new? If not it may need a spring and pin kit. I'm sure you know but make sure that both springs are installed under each pin. I only say this because I have seen people only install one spring.

both springs are installed, and jon told me about him getting some new pins. I don't believe there is enough side pressure either. The locker doesn't have 20 mi on it, but I bought it 2 years ago. I am thinking about just having a new one installed and pay someone so if it doesn't work it's their ass.

ok, so any ideas? I'm sick of spending $ on this d35, and I have a 9" and 44hp. What is a good estimate to have the 9 and 44 regeard to 5.13:1?

I have a spring & pin set for a quick lock.

not sure what the terminology is for them, but do you install the washers/spacers/shims from the side gears from the open diff onto the lock rite?

I'll have to check, but I don't remember using a stock spacer, only the one's supplied. The carrier I used was empty so it didn't have any, but I have another carrier.

What brand locker is it? If its a Detroit-EZ locker I've seen several of them that did not function correctly (I had one myself and so did Novacayne75). They were both installed correctly but would unload while on the gas & going straight.

It is the same design, I think this one is a Richmond Gear though. I didn't look tonight, but I don't believe there were any thrust washers that would work with the locker installed.

It has been a while since I have had a D-35, the thrust washer goes between the lock-rite side gear and the carrier. Yes there is room the washer is just a couple of thousands thick
