After being at the flats this weekend, im checking out lockers. In your opinion would you get front or back first? Any certain brand?

For a weekend wheeler I would put a lock right in front. I had two different XJ's lock in front and both did about everything I wanted it to.

Just got a Spartan locker from ECGS for the front of my XJ. Can't wait to try it out.

With the Spartan locker for the D30, you do not reuse the shims for the side gears or the thrust washers.

I like a rear locker best.

Back when I had an XJ pretty similar to yours, i locked the front with a lock-rite, and was VERY happy with the performance.

I started with a No Slip in the rear of my DD-XJ, it worked alright. I would get hung up a few times when a front locker would've helped, but I doubt under those circumstances, a front locker instead of in the rear that I would have been any better off. I just added a lock right in front...fully locked is the way to roll :huggy:

Thanks guys!
@Matt, your hilarious!

Going up your weight distributes to the rear so a rear locker should provide the most forward momentum. I've had both and for the longer wheelbase of an XJ I prefer the rear but it also depends what axle you have under it. D30/D35 locker in the front, the D35 just can't handle it. D30/8.25 or D44 locker in the rear. Up front I'd go Spartan out back I'd go Grizzly or Detroit unless you got lots of extra $$$ then I'd look into selectable lockers for both so you get the best of both worlds locked and unlocked.

Nope, not loaded with the $$$. I wish! It is a Dana 30. I have been looking at the Spartan Lockers. Thanks for the info. Just trying to get opinions on weather to get front or back first. Have to get them one at a time. Unless I win the lottery Wednesday night and then we will be putting both on this coming weekend! LOL

Thanks for all the info!

Weld em both and enjoy doing shit ya never thought you could do!!!

I honestly say rear first. I did the rear first and a wheeled with a buddy who did the front. I went more places than he could. Pretty much identical xj's. Just saying.

I'd do the rear first, but not if it is a Dana 35. If you have a D35, then I would do the front first and work on finding an 8.25 or Ford 8.8 rearend to swap

Get yourself an Aussie for the rear & you'll be happy

I went with the Spartan in the front first because I plan to swap my 8.25 for an 8.8, so no sense buying a locker for the 8.25. When I do the 8.8 swap, I plan on trying out a stock limited slip that is rebuilt with extra clutches. Always had good luck with this on the Mustangs we used to mess with, even when on full slicks at the drag strip.

Yeah as to my last post if it sees the pavement dont weld front!!! start with rear take it off the road then weld both... lol
