Lockout hubs for a 4x4 Dodge Ram?

Well, the DA designers at Chrysler decided in 2002 that is was OK for the entire D60 front axle to spin when not needed. I have one of those last produced 2500's with no axle disconnect feature. So, axles and drive shaft spins will rolling down a paved road. This raises the question, has anyone tried to install locking hubs on any second generation Dodge Ram by collecting parts here and there and making this idea a reality? Yes, there are aftermarket kits for $2000 but too much money for an old Dodge. Wonder, for example, if some Ford D60 axle parts where lockouts were available would work on the Dodge D60? Ideas and thoughts appreciated.

The Ford swap is fairly straightforward from my reading on Pirate. Since I'm rich I just bought the SpynTech kit from ECGS :) Worked out to right at 2 MPG better with the hubs installed :driver:

Thanks tons to those who provided links to the hybrid solution. Having studied all that on Pirate I have to wonder....could parts from a 1st generation (pre 1974) W250 or W300 bolt right on and keep the swap all Mopar? Thoughts appreciated.

Time for another

From what I discovered when trying to do the Ford outers swap on a previous Dodge that I had I discoverd that Dodge changed the ball joints in 00 and the Ford stuff will not work with 00-up Dodge D60. I read it on the pirate thread where I got all the infor the swap.

What did it end up costing you? Wish I had looking into that more before replacing the unit bearings.
