After having it only 4 years , I'm finally getting around to installing my LockRight into the IFS front. I'm swapping up to diffs already setup for 529s, so figured this was a convenient time.

Now, after pulling the ring and carrier assembly out, it looks like the ring has to actually be removed from the carrier casing in order to get to get the center pin out and corresponding spider gears. Gear is thick and in the way.
Is that right? I though the "magic" of these lockers was in not having to disturb the ring itself.
Anybody know of a good "how to" writeup on this specific install? The Richmond instructiosn are pretty generic.

I have always had to remove the ring gear on my yotas to install the lockrights. I always just mark everything really well, so it goes back together exactly as it came apart.

Yea, you will have to remove the ring, but mark it before you take it off. Put the carrier inthe freezer overnight before you reinstall. Be sure you mark everything side specific before you take it apart. You won't have to reset up the gear pattern just by removing the ring. Follow the directions in the box with reguards to the adjusters. On the V6 rear I just did, you don't have to remove the ring because the carrier is split for the 4 pinions.

Ya, see, this one dosn't have the 4-pinion carrier so the ring is in teh way and has to come off.
The booklet is not very informative about adjusters, just says "remove them". Generic instructions, gr.

there is no adjusters on the 7.5 it uses side shims. pull the carrier out after taking out the shafts, pop them out with a pry bar, remove bearing caps mark there orientation left/right up/down, pry carrier from case, keep track of bearing cups and the side shims, i right on them w/ sharpies backside- ring side- lay aside. then remove ring gear, mark the position of it for best results. knock out roll pin, push out crossshaft pin. roll out spiders, remove side gears, retain thrust washers behind side gears to go behind LR side gears. install lock right per instructions, reassemble reverse of disassembly, my site has a PDF w/ torque specs in the tech section for ring gear, caps, ect.
