Axle

Well kinda trying to get feedback on different axles. But mainly cuz I got a deal on a Lockright for a Dana 70 rear I'm putting together....Gonna run 42's on it & concerned a little...but the price was right. Welding or Detroit still an option if I break it.

I have had them in Dana 30's and 44's and they worked great and read online about guys running them in Dodge rears D70/80behind Cummins' with zero problems.

Thanks for any input.

my cousin has exploded 2 detroits in a 44 on 35's but that really dosnt help much.

just some worhtless info for the day.

i would figure it would hold up fine as long as you dont do something completlly crazy with it. i mean it is a D70.

I love lockrites. They are cheap, and if you break one your only out the money for a lockrite. If a detroit goes it could take the gears or a shaft with it, and I have heard some horror stories about detroits exploding and their horrible customer service.

Not exactly the same, but I had a lockright in the 9" in my 67 Ford Fairlane with a hopped up 390 and a 4 speed. I twisted the 31sp left axle off at the splines launching at the track, and still drove home (15 miles) in right wheel drive. The only reason I'm not running it now is because I upgraded to moser 35sp and a spool.

FWIW I am going to put a lockright in my 78 F150 project trucks 9" when the time comes.

I ran a lockrite front and rear 30/35 with 33's for about 15K before i sold my rig, ZERO problems.. yeah even in the front, and the front turned all the time (99 Grand cherokee)

Any major issues on the street??? I know about the noise but I only have 32/s and a 3 " lift on my TJ but I figure lockrights f/r would get me over some stuff. Which would you do 1st if your budget plans interupt

lockrites would be a great way to improve the performance of your jeep. It will be night and day difference. You will hardly notice they are there on the street as well.

My roommate blew up the rear detroit in his old chevy last year, took the gears with it.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the input. We'll put the ol' Lockright to the Torture Test and see what it can stand....It's only money right...Plus I'm EVIL on Parts!!:D

Maybe I'll let Ricky take 'er for a spin...Or Woody, Chip, KC, JThomas ..... hmm....who else is HELL ON PARTS??? !!!! I reckon I could list all of y'all on here...except Rich...I hear his L/C's only for Show.....??? Hey...just what I hear don't know but I never seen his rig out anywhere...???

Juggy the LRs in the larger axles are much bigger than in the D30/D44s etc.. Tons of people use em in the 60s... And as everyone has said they are relatively cheep in comparison..

Stop buying shit and start putting your junk together !!

doesnt aussie locker come with an unlimited tire size warranty type thing and aussie and lockright are pretty much the same lockers so i would say u should be fine

all with a lockright in a hp60, I broke all the shafts in the front/35 spline outters/ 35spline lockouts/ ripped a good section of teeth off the R&P and never broke the lockright. 2 years it took to wear one out and it gave me fair warning, started slipping and such. Funny thing is they were considering replacing it under warrenty. I told them it had been abused and I really didn't mind paying for another. My buggy only has 39's on it but they are sticky krawlers and are absolute hell on a dirvetrain. I'd venture to say close to what a 44 would be. I'll buy one every couple of years if I have to, 40minute install by just pulling the diff cover.

how bad would one be for a DD?

they can OBVIOULSY take the abuse off road, but would on road (i.e DD'ing) put anymore abuse on one considering the amount of engage/disengage points?

I have been DD'ing my 4Runner with a Lockright. With my auto tranny I notice more drivetrain slop when shifting say from Park to Drive or from Reverse to Drive and so forth. Other than that Its great in a DD and not that noticible.
