The wife and I are thinking of going to Blowing Rock for our anniversary. Was just wondering if anyone knew a good place to stay. We want to go to Mystery Hill and hit any local wineries if possible.

Rent a cabin in Valle Crucis. They are 15-20 minutes from Blowing Rock, but have a much nicer feel.

My room mate works at the Cliff Dwellers Inn off of 321. Rooms are pretty nice, location is really good.

If you need anything let me know and I can try and get him to set some stuff up, although I doubt I can swing an employee discount

if you really want to wine and dine her, take her to the Chetola Resort. Its a little pricey, but, it is the nicest place in all of the mountains. You can also walk to any thing in Blowing Rock if you want and the place has everything you can think of. Even has its own private lake that you can canoe in or fish. Monster Trout in there!!

Thanks for the info guys. Found a nice place to stay, now any recommendation on a place for a nice dinner?

Well, how nice are you looking to get?

If your looking at 2-250 for both meals, check out The Gamekeeper. They have all sorts of hard to find meat based entrees (Buffalo, ostrich, snake, rabbit, etc...) Never been there myself, but my sister has and said it was FANTASTIC.

There is a place up in Banner Elk that has really good cajun food, called the Louisiana Purchase. I ate their gumbo there, and it was really good.

Of course there is always The Peddler. A little more upscale, but not 200 for both people.

There is a Chili's here now too...if thats more what you are into.

Also, Makotos Japanese Restaurant is one of those where they cook in front of you. Pretty nice place.

Thanks macdaddy! The Louisiana Purchase sounds interesting. I have heard good things about Twigs also.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about the Blowing Rock places. Twigs is supposed to be good. If your looking for Barbeque....check out Woodlands! Amazing food to be had there.

There are a few places in downtown Blowing Rock. Mellow Mushroom, and a place called Knights on Main which is supposed to be decent.

As far as the Louisiana Purchase place, the service was pretty crummy when we went, but it was an off time and we are college kids so...

Canyons on 321 on the south end of blowing rock is really good, and has unbeatable views. Also not to expensive at $15ish each.
