try Richmond road off of hwy 321 it's a public road just got a few tough spots

several of us here in candler. Not much local legal wheeling. Developers are snatching it all up:shaking: we try to go wheeling somewhere every other weekend or so.

Hi
I'm from Marshall and there are a few shorter trails between here and johnson city Tn. most end up being a 3 to 5 hr ride. There's aleast 2 or three within an hour from here. if you dont have them yet look at Nat'l Geographic's "TRAILS ILLUSTRATED" maps. They are great for finding old goat path style dirt roads. look at #'s 784 and 785, they cover alot of area around here.

So who want's to hit up bumpus cove or paint creek next weekend?

Here it is
http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/gateway/246/120.html

I also listed the wrong map numbers I have:
#782 French Broad and Nolichucky Rivers
#783 South Holston and Wautaga lakes
Both cover parts of NC (pisgah n.f.) and TN (cherokee n.f.)

If you get one you want to find the "unimproved roads" (large dashed lines) and for even more fun the "designated 4wd roads" (small dashed lines)<---- those are some of the roads (which are public by the way) that make you go woo hoo at 5 mph. Thay also show camp grounds and back country camping areas.

We've got a couple of Grand Cherokee's around Asheville. Like everyone else said, theres not much around. There's a great place in Fletcher called Couch Mtn. but its not currently legal. A couple of us are trying to work something out with the landowners so that we can use it with their permission, but its not going too well.

One place that might not be too far away is Hurricane Creek. Its a forest service road off of I-40 W right after mile marker 8. It's a pretty easy trail and goes back into the Fines Creek area for several miles.

Hurricane Creek, back in the day was fun in high school. Tons of big holes to run through, fields to haul ass in and some steep climbs in places. Now the FS has cut down trees and pretty much blocked anyone from getting off the small road they left. the trail is nothing more than a rocky road. i wouldn't waste my time.

I also live in Candler. I just came back home after living in TN for 4 years. I had Windrock and Tellico at my doorstep along with Harlan not too far away. I've been wondering this exact same question about where to go locally.

It's actually Richlands off of 321.

Do you think the running through big holes off the trail and hauling ass through the fields has anything to do with the forest service blocking it down to just an access road?
And you wonder why there is nowhere to go...:shaking:

Have you actually been there or are you just talking out of your ass like you know the place? My guess would be the latter. It was all open and "now" there is a road. Anything else you'd care to share about the area since you know it so well?

It's actually not a giant leap of logic. It's happened everywhere. It's not one person's fault, more of a collective burden so there needs to be a collective solution. That's why responsible wheeling is so important to most people on this board.

and I totally agree but the last thing I need is a smartass remark about how places are getting closed. it's painfully obvious to everyone (edit: or at least should be). some people just think they're making a difference by pointing it out every chance they get.

First off, watch your mouth. You don't know me, and I was respectful in my post. All I did was ask a question based on your post, using your own description, so settle down.:shaking:
Have I been there, no. And why is that? Go back and read your original post. If you and your buddies hadn't been running through all the big holes and hauling ass in the fields, maybe I could go. It was probably never "all open", and it was high school kids like yourself who got it shut down.
Why else would the forest service, as you say, cut down trees and pretty much block anyone from getting off the small road they left. I am willing to bet it was only ever supposed to be a small road, but the "tear it up, lets go muddin'" immature crowd opened it all up for themselves, then got it shut down. It has been happening for years, and the more ammo we give to the greenies, the better chance of loosing places like URE and Tellico.

For reference, in case you don't feel like scrolling up...

"Back" in high school dumbass. I'm 28 now and how about you watch your mouth because you don't know who you're talking to. So you're holier than thou? Well, I for one am glad we have Mr. Perfect on the board to tell us right from wrong. Since you've never done anything wrong maybe you can't understand where I come from. Believe me, I've made mistakes and learned from them and in case you didn't know, most people that know me know that I am a strong activist for the sport.

Go preach somewhere else. I'm sure there's a choir that needs it besides this one :shaking:

What exactly have I said that I need to watch my mouth about? Who is calling people names and can't take the fact that you posted up about a trail that used to be open (whether actually or not) and about how you used to tear it up "back" when you were in high school.
I have never said I was holier than thou.
You started this with an overreaction to my observation about trails getting shut down.
I have been civil, I am done with the bullshit. I could care less how big you think your e-penis is and that you feel the need to prove how much of a man you are by spouting off on a website.
Go wheel wherever the hell you want. I guess we will still be able to hit up the mall.:shaking:

I just didn't care for your tone about how places get shut down. That's all. I guess we finally agree on something because I'm done with this BS too. You can head to the mall if you want, I'm nowhere street legal. Oh and for clarification,

You guys crack me up!! Maybe you both have points, but why be mean to each other? I mean , if your not hugging trees, you should be hugging each other...lol

I am only making jokes here to lighten yall up, so dont use your e-penises on me!!

I personally love watching people get into a pissing match on the internet with someone they will never meet.

Yes, for instance,I was at an event and met someone new.
I ask if he was on this forum. He said yes and when I asked his user name, he said he didnt know if he should give that info
because of past verbal sparing matches. I think that is silly.
Thats why I use my real name. So everyone knows its me.
I only have my name to hide behind and It keeps me honest and straight.

Thats not saying that I wont argue or dissagree or that above posts dont have a point.
Im just saying , I cant be too nasty in my conversations because my name is there.

I used to use my name on here before we all had to re-register, I changed to upnover, now no one knows who I am!

I actually thought when the board changed I lost my username so I actually signed on as my new screen name "McCracken" but it said I was already a member. Checked it and sure enough I'm still here.

Anyway, as for pissing matches, I enjoy a few jabs from time to time. I actually got into a pretty big "discussion" with a guy on pirate one time. It went on for a week. Next club meeting I went to I started talking to a new guy and sure enough it was him. We both laughed then and still do.

Dylan, in case you didn't catch it the first time

:huggy:

I saw that the first time. If you tell a man that your e-penis is huge more than once it could be considered:gay:lol

Any way, have a  and keep secrets about your self, to your self.:shaking:

Pissing matches are one thing but e-penis measuring is another. Besides,we have our 4x4s to serve as weiner extensions, right? lol

There is 900 acres here in this area that with permission the guy will open up. And it has some very pucker factor spots. And stuff for the mild off roader.

So whats the scoop on this place? Is it for anyone, could a responsible group of wheelers possibly wheel this area? Would a work day get a group in?
