I've got an 01 duramax, bought a brand new tuner, and it cannot read the vin so it can't do anything. I know it is the correct one, and I even tried a friends and same thing.
Maybe just a reflash of the computer would work, or if the computer was replaced in the past could it not even have a vin number programmed to it?

I don't think there is another tuning software on it because I bought the truck from an old lady, and it still feels slow like stock and doesn't get that great of gas mileage.

if anybody knows what to do or knows of a shop between greensboro and raleigh that would be able to help I would really appreciate it. I spent quite a bit of money on this tuner, and it doesn't even make a good paper weight.

What kind of tuner? You may have an ecm issue or you may just need to pull a couple fuses. I am in Charlotte so it's a little farther than you want to drive.

This guy knows his stuff.

Alot of tuners require you to pull a few fuses to get it to work right. My PPE recommended it, but I didn't need to, I just had to turn the radio off or it wouldn't work.

If you need a diesel shop, look into Diesel Addiction, they are down towards the coast.

whoops, I forgot to mention that the tuner was a hypertech max energy
Hmm I had a hypertech PP3 on mine, it had no issues, didn't even have to pull a fuse, but it was an older model tuner.

I wonder if he could go to an inspection station, have your truck hooked up to their computer and see if it pulls the correct VIN?

(I know 3/4 ton+ trucks don't need inspected, but when they hook up other OBDII cars to it, it reads out the VIN on the computer)
