Looking for a new daily

Every time I go looking for a new vehicle with a straight drive, I am floored by the statement of "the take rate is too low to justify the development costs".....but then the actual vehicles are unobtanium. People scoop up manual transmission cars QUICK or, they get on a list and wait. All while the lot has an abundance of automatic transmission counterparts sitting unsold.

"I want it to still be the 90s!"

Also - me too.
I miss Nervana and dialup internet.
I don't miss dial up.
A simple car does not have to equal 20 years ago, but 'they' won't make it.....and then say 'look everyone only buys these complex unreliable POS cars we make now" when that is our only option. Just imagine how cheap and robust a 4 door, cloth seat, analog HVAC, no screen, no AI tech, manual trans, manual tcase, simple coil spring IFS and solid rear axle 4wd could be. 250hp-ish naturally aspirated V6. They could keep using stalks and switches from 20 years ago, $20 head and tail lights that can be worked on without taking bumpers off, a $100 double DIN radio, a simple gauge panel using gauges from 20 years ago....basically free at this point.

we get what we deserve

So, momma wanted a new DD. Needed more available cargo capacity than her WK2 when she makes her trips north or south. I almost always beed some pickup truck capacity. So what's a man to do? Look for something that fits both needs.

Monday I found something that might work, a lightly used Gladiator Rubicon. We both had been wanting one but sticker shock on new ones was a huge issue.

Drive to Newport News Tuesday to test drive this 2021 Gladiator Rubicon in Snazzberry (momma said no White, Black, Green or Gray). After all was said and done, I bought this and will pick it up Tuesday after the dealer has the paint guy touch up 2 nit picky spots I found. 3680 miles on it. $47K OTD. I will be having a 2002 WJ for sale soon as a result of this.

deets on the dub please.

My wife recently got into watching some overlanding shows on YT. She would really like a weekend getway JL or JT. But, as our pups age, they would have a difficult time getting into one and w/o rear AC, it's a no-go.

02 with the 4.0L auto with the select-trac about 202K on it. Typical drivers seat wear, the rest of it is in good shape. Rear plastic bumper is crunched in on the passengers side. I was thinking of $2500 but open to offers from NC4x4 peeps so I don't have to dick around with the FB and CL morons.

Not on the list and still almost 20 years old but my daily is an 06 Honda CR-V awd 5-speed and I love it. As far as getting to trails, I’ve driven it up and down old 105 countless times and all over Wilson’s creek area plus when the jeep was down for the started and an oil leak I took it through the fields to throw corn out and change trail cam batteries. I think 06 may be the last year for manual though.

You maybe speaking my language. I already have an LJ....so it was hard to justify a second wrangler based platform in the driveway....BUT.....these damn Tacoma's are apparently made of gold and unobtainable with a manual transmission.

I test drove a used 2022 with a manual transmission, and the dealership wants more than new MSRP for it with 20k on the odometer. I would add, the truck was "fine".....but I would say it is about $10k overpriced for what it is (Tacoma in general). That 3.5l V6 felt anemic, maybe you need to rev it to the moon? Felt like any tq it made was WAY up in the RPM range....off idle was not impressive at all.

I had hoped to get something new, that I could drive for the next decade, maybe a JL can manage that?

For Tacoma prices, I could buy a Rubicon or Mojave gladiator!
