My fiance has finally given me the go ahead to get a new rig. I want something that will be able to fit me my fiance stepdaughter & my yet to be born child. I want something reliable decent milage be able to wheel on the weekend and drive to work on monday has to have decent aftermarket support. I dont plan on going above a 35 inch tire more likely a 33. I've been looking at 2000-2004 Nissan Xterras 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees. Of the 2 I like the grand the best but Is there something else on the market I'm not considering. Does anyone DD/WW any of these vehicles & what are the pros & cons of each?

Get a 2003 Nissan Xterra

I had one and loved it.
Very comfortable and lots of aftermarket for them.

Xterra has a solid frame which is always a plus.

although the Grand already has a solid axle.

Xterra with a 3 inch body and 3 inch suspension casn fit 35s easy

and its still pretty decent to drive on the road.

One more plus to the xterra

head on collision other car was doing 60 on a back road

driver side to driver side.
I had bruised heels and a headache.

P.s. dont get a supercharged. They cost more to maintain and they suck when you swamp it and have to spend 3 hours trying to get to the stinking 6th plug to pull it and get the water out.

although we did eventually get that one started.

:)

Gotta rep for the GC. F&R solid axles + V8 FTW! You can fit 35's on a WJ with 6" of lift too.

Side note, try to find a Laredo with the V8. That should eliminate the blend door nightmare.

Well I went and test drove a couple of trucks today I really love the Grand Cherokee especially with the 4.7 plenty of power the boss approved of it as well any know if the 99-04 Grands had any specific problems or if there is certain models to avoid.

The Jeep is probably going to be the winner I really enjoy the fact that its not going to cost me over $1000 to fit 33s when for as little as $500 I can fit 33s on the grand or with trimming 35s. The aftermarket support for the Xterra is pretty slim & I just got done driving one pretty fawking slow did not expect it to be that slow.

Any of the GC's with dual climate may have blend door issues.

Other than that they're pretty reliable (for a jeep). The V8's come with the aluminum 44 which is a plenty strong for 99% of DD/WW'ers and a good transmission.

A V8 laredo with the 242HD is like the holy grail of WJ's IMO.

Thanks for the info I'm going to get myself a Wj with the V8 for sure might have to look at yours for some ideas considering I'm not that far from you & I grew up in the South Asheville/Arden area. Now if my taxes would hurry up I can get one in my driveway been way to long since I've had a 4x4 in my driveway first test will be the hill in my moms yard LOL

I just got an '03 GCL with the 4.0 and love it. Drives and rides like a dream. Got 19.6 driving it to Oak Island last weekend. It also has the selectrac that I was looking for too. Getting it rigged right now as my new beach buggy for fishing at Hatteras and Fort Fisher so I need the better MPG. (old truck got 9mpg)

Not sure if you have checked them out but the best site for WJ owners is http://www.wjjeeps.com/jmenu.htm They have everything you ever wanted to know about WJ's.

I've got a very nice 89 4runner for sale. Great gas mileage and cold air! Nicest one around. PM me if interested.

Sure man just shoot me a pm and we can meet up or something...I may have some 4" springs for sale soon too.

It might be untill the end of the month apparenty the state of Florida thinks its an awesome idea to pay unemployment at the begining of the month :shaking: I'd rather be working so I can get me my new Grand I can't wait to have 4wd again I know the first mod is going to be some NC4X4 stickers.:bounce2:

A 22RE 4Runner would be what I'd get, But I will say the 4.7 Grand Cherokees are pretty nice. I can get 20-22 driving it right and we really haven't had any problems with it. Other than the cv axles up front and some lil odd and ends. It's a 99 btw.

I think I've screwed myself went on powerblock to see if they had any Grand Cherokee videos ended up watching the video of the RAM 1500 DD/WW project now I want a Ram and then I saw JC's build on here now I'm so confused. Went online and looked at RAM 1500s and I can get them pretty cheap just not sure how big the back seats are never sat in the back of one
