Just got a CJ7 thinking of changing the axles and want to put in an auto tranny..some of you guys that have done this for a few years thow me some ideas...i built a TJ now gonna try my hand at this one...

All depends on what you want to do with it. What size tires and so on. So let us know these things and you will get a little better idea.

In my former ride, 79 CJ7:

I swapped in a Dana 44 from a 86 CJ and ran 35's with that. Used a Dana widetrack in the front, TH400 out of a CJ and a Novak adapter to a Dana 300 transfer case. Never had any trouble out of this setup, as most of it was an easy swap. I used a Lokar shifter for the auto tranny because it was about the same length as the stock shifter and it bolted right up.

hey upnover..i am still coming to see you one day..i dont know what tires and such yet i am going to get the cj next weekend..i have a tj now on 35's but am thinking of making something a little bigger..i will come down soon and we can talk about it..it needs a tranny now...would like a auto and a d300 if you hear of one close

hey 59 willys.......did you have to do anything special to get the th400 in there? i think i am going to go the same route with auto and d300..will have to find them...it needs a tranny now but has a newly rebuilt engine..let me know if you had to do anything special on the tranny....thanks

If you find a Jeep TH400, you shouldn't have to do anything. If you end up with a GM version of the TH400 you will probably need an advance adapter.

Ive got a set of ProComp 4" springs for a CJ7 and a T400 from a Jeep to get rid of. Let me know if you are interested. Im in lower Charlotte (Right by Tega Cay SC )

44's are a great set of axles for 37" & under tires, but i would advise hard shafts & u joints for hd wheelin, th400 is a hd at and a good choice, dont even consider a gm th 350 it is strong tranny but you will need adapters & it has clearance problems between the frt driveshaft & tranny pan.
