Took a look at a the '08 Durango. Didn't seem half bad. I was wondering if anyone here has/had one, worked on any, or any other info on them.

I found a few reviews online. couple sounded like someone at Chrysler paid them to write the review, then another sounded like he preferred to drive Mazda Miatas.

anyone?

We have a couple of them at work. Kinda like a 4wd minivan to me.

They have single speed transfer cases (at least ours do), plastic all over the interior, and after driving several Chrysler minivans, I cant help but find lots of similarities.

The 4.7 is decently powerful, the IFS up front is IFS, Dodge decided to put all of the drivetrain and exhaust 5 inches below the frame rails and put a huge skid plate on it (maybe not 5 inches, but it hangs down a lot!)

Inside is mostly comfortable, rear seat is decent, cargo area is decent. They seem to hold up OK to emergency response, which is a huge plus.

Havent towed anything big with them, but had a friend with an older one (99?) with a 5.2. Put a lot of miles on it towing a built TJ on a light open frame 14 foot trailer. It did it, but that was about the max we ever wanted to push it.

My aunt has one that I borrow from time to time, she loves it. I can't complain. They have a lot of room, their very comfortable to drive, hers has the V8 and AWD/4 lock deal so MPGs ain't the greatest. She goes to the OBX a good bit and drives out there with it, her boyfriend has a pretty good size boat they pull behind. She said she wished had gotten the third row seat though. My wife wants one like it but with the third row seat. Don't know if that helps or not.

this would be for the wifey. She can't bring herself to drive a Mini van, and we stumbled across the Durango at the CarMax and she liked it. She thought it was kinda Minivanish, but more Truck than mini van. She doesn't travel that far on a daily basis, just to pick up kids and to the store, all within 5 miles. no towing right now. so none of that is a real concern.

anyone else?

What about the 42RLE Tranny? I'm a little leery of the 42RE, is this any better?

My wife's aunt has a 2008 Durango with the 300 hp 4.7. It is very big and comfy. Her's has the 3rd row seating and I was really surprised how much room there was. Not only did the 3rd row seat have pleanty of leg room, there was still open storage space between the back of the seat and the 5th door. We barrowed it and drove from Beckley, Wv down to Savannah, Ga. with a bunch of little kids. The tv's kept the kids at bay and there were a lot of ports and outlets for the kids to charge up their things. I thought the 4.7 struggled to keep the big SUV cruising on the hwy without drinking too much gas. I think we averaged 17 mpg, almost all hwy but then again, it is a very big and comfy SUV.
