Went deer hunting one last time for the season and found this out in the woods. Talked to the lady and she was about to call a scrap metal guy to come get all the junk cars off the property. 1957 short box with what appears to be the factory 283 and 3 speed. It was her Grandfather's and they parked it there when he passed away. I always wanted a matching pickup to our 57 Belair. Same black paint, interior and wheels on a matching car and truck would look pretty sweet.

Just kidding! Everything else is out there is beyond wasted and melted into the ground. I grabbed a hood ornament off a early 50's Pontiac while I was scrounging. Someone had already picked all the other salvagable parts, must have happened before the truck was parked. It was intact. Still had a pouch of Red Man laying on the dash. Glove box had a old box of .22's and a 1964 NC map. I really dig time capsules, lots of fun!

Did you give her my card?
Believe it or not, I told her I could recomend a good Scraptologist. She had already commited to a local guy. She said that if he didnt come through she would let me know. You are going to need a 4x4 tractor, a chainsaw and some dynamite to get them out. They are melted into the ground.

Unless I'm wrong that's not a 57, it's either a 55 or 56. I have had a 57 & all research showed that the 57 had a different grill & hood, that were only used on that model. The hood had two scoops or arrows and the grill is very unique. Great find none the less, things like this are getting harder & harder to find.

Lefty, you are correct, But It's a 57 according to the body tags. My best guess is it was wrecked and they put a 55 or 56 front end on it. It is a different color under the hood and fenders where they repainted it. I thought the same thing as you, untill she insisted the title was for a 57 and I matched it up.

Nice, but I agree with lefty, it looks more like a late 55/56 model, although it is entirely possible to swap the grilles with an earlier model.

Edit: Well I guess you answered it right there above me.

Great find! Hope she gave a discount for 30% of the body you will be replacing, along with the other eat up parts. The GOOD part, all the parts are available!
Yep. They make patch panels for every square inch of it. Its one of the best trucks to find replacement parts for. Now, my 66 Scout is a different story all together.:shaking:

No Problem GC. Your input is welcome. I sold a basket case 57 long bed a few years ago on ebay. It had the large rear window and a nice 57 hood. Wish I would have kept it now.

There is an outfit (somewhere) that sells reproduction Cameo beds and trim to convert your truck. Are any of you guys familiar with them???

I'm not familiar with them, but IIRC the original Cameos were just the regular stepside bed, except with a huge fiberglass bedside/fender to make it similar to a fleetside style from outward appearance. I don't see how reproductions would be much different, although with fiberglass, fit is always an issue.

Exactly why I got rid of my 65 Scout 80.... spent more time trying to find parts that didn't seem to exist.

Yep. Its a labor of love. Mine is pretty complete. Door and window rubbers are my issue. You could buy everything for a camaro or a chevelle for a third of what those simple windows cost.:kaioken:

Ha, tell me about it....

Try finding parts for a 1956 International S-100,
