Sold my Jeep yesterday to a guy that came up from Wilmington and immediately went and bought this. It's a '98.5, 4wd, QCLB dually, 24v, with a 5th wheel. Picked it up for $4000. What you guys think?

Jealously is what I think. Very nice looking truck especially for the price.

it runs GREAT. could use a programmer but that'll happen eventually. the guy's asking price was what I paid. I had him talked into $3700 cash but when I got there to look at it and drive it he told me that he and his wife had gotten into an argument when he told her he was only getting $3700 so he had to go back up to $4000. I still don't think I did bad though. the interior is pretty clean, but the dash is a typical cracked Dodge dash. this is definitely what I've been wanting though.

sweet! I may look into that sometime in the near future. I'm deploying tomorrow so I'll probably be putting a little bit of my extra deployment money into it just to do some things that I wanna do.

Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me, congrats on the find.

Good deal on the truck man but if you plan on throwing some power at it you need to build that automatic, even with just a simple programmer they wont last that long.

Very true, buddy has the same truck, just SRW, just did a programmer on it, killed 2 of the stock transmissions before spending the big money and building the trans, no problems since though.

I'm not too worried about getting a lot of power out of it, just want better fuel mileage. I stopped and got fuel today...$20 got me 4.7 gallons. I started out last night with 1/4 tank, drove it across town to my house, drove it to work this morning, and was almost out of fuel already. lol.

I put one of those on my 01 and wish I left my cracked dash alone. It does not it as well as the factory dash and the factory matching paint I got does not match.

Damn, that sucks to hear. Leaving my dash alone isn't really an option. I've got a piece about the size of a large serving tray missing out of the middle:lol:.

Maybe you will have better luck that I did. It looks ok, I was just hoping for better I guess. I still have not put the black trim piece back on because the clips do not line up very well.

you did good man. do yourself a favor, and invest in an aftermarket lift pump FIRST before anything.

190K miles is no problem on a cummins my 99 has 250k on it now and our 91 has 423k and our 93 has 347k they all have never been apart and pull a 30,000 lb trailer since bought new. But the lift pump on your 24 valve is a good idea I have an airdog 150 on mine and you can get the filters for the system from oreillys or autozone or any of those stores I have the wix part #'s wrote down that I could give you if you ever needed it.

I'm a diesel mechanic by no means so I'm still learning about all this stuff. is there anything in particular that I should look for? I know Dodges are known for their transmission problems. The guy I got it from said the overdrive band needs to be adjusted. at 35-40 mph it shifts in and out of overdrive, but once you get above 40 mph, it shifts into overdrive and stays in and does fine. I'm not sure if what he said about the bands is true but I've also heard my stepdad talk about doing something similar. I figured I'd do a filter and fluid change and while I'm at it check out whatever the band situation is.

Check to make sure its NOT a 59 block. Check the cummins forums for all that info, a potential downfall, similar to the killer dowel pin on the 12V. Like stuntman autoworks said the lift pump, cant tell you how many trucks come into the dealership to get those replaced before it goes bad. And find a gas station with GOOD diesel!

diesel isn't super easy to get in Fayetteville (few stations have it) but there are truck stops all over 95 so I may try to fill up there a lot. there's a Kangaroo that has it right up the road from my house. I stopped at the Sunoco that the guy I got the truck from recommended and paid $4.19 a gallon one day on my way home from work because I didn't know if I could make it to the Kangaroo. passed the Kangaroo afterwards and the sign out front said diesel there was $3.89. FML. lol.
