So my latest job has me managing recent acquisitions. About 30% of my time will be taken up with 17 businesses in LA. The work week is closing down, I'll be here another week. I figure I'll do the typical tourist thing this weekend, take a bus ride through Hollywood, take a stroll through the Carroll Shelby Office, maybe a casino or two...and perhaps even a look at the Viper Room. Tar pits and museums are definitely on the list too. Any other 'must do's/see's'??? Primarily looking for stuff so I can say 'yeah, I did it'.

Beaches will eventually happen I suppose, and a trip up the PCH to San Fran is on the list. Beyond that, Vegas is a 4 drive too.

Been to Vegas and San Fran, never spent much time wondering around LA since ended up getting so lost at LAX airport. Lol

LAX blew...took me an hour and a half to get off the plane, to luggage to Hertz. Beyond that, LA hasn't seemed to live up to the stereotypes the east coast seems to build. That said, the slums still make me a bit nervous, I'm dotted between the outskirts of Compton and Torrance. Already have a gun safe mounted in my office so I can just buy something out here and leave it when I leave, just to be on the safe side.

They have a pretty nice Zoo, the one at San Diego is very nice but $$$. Disney, Universal, Peterson's auto museum I think is still there. Knotts Berry Farm is there along with worst Friggen Traffic ever.

I'll have to give the zoo a look, and I'm closing a facility in SD, so I'll probably hit up their zoo too. I did the theme park thing last year for a finance conference. Auto Museums would be great, don't have a clue what Knotts Berry Farm is. And personally, I don't think the 110 or 405 are any worse than 85 in and out of Charlotte at rush hour. I will say though...that Dick move driving thread is how you HAVE to drive out here.

Check out Sequoia, and the Tahoe area then head to Vagas. Next day check out Grand Canyon, Flagstaf and Sedona. Day three, south to Yuma, west to San Diego. You 'll see some bad ass stuff...

I'm not much for cities but I thought Sacramento was a pretty cool laid back place. Enjoyed it actually. And x2 on Tahoe! The redwoods of Cali and what's considered "country" is really worth seeing. The whole state I thought of as like an addiction. Im dying to get back out there! I'll gladly swap places with ya!

Thanks for the suggestions guys...actually got pulled in to the office a few hours this morning, but gonna give some of these things a go in an hour or two.

LOL..... take a TMZ tour..... I got nothing...... Never really had an interest in California. I Know there's alot out there, but Vegas is as far as I've ever been, only went there for a concrete expo.

Ended up doing Petersen's and the LaBrea tar pits/museum thing this weekend. Those were both pretty cool. Decided I was essentially obligated to take a look at the walk of fame since I was that close...wasn't going to battle traffic and all the people, so I headed back to my hotel. Found a local messican bar and my spanish is a bit off, but I think I was recruited to 3 different gangs.

Funny, I just saw this thread. I am right outside of LA, in Rancho Cucamonga. I did the tourist thing this weekend and went and saw the Hollywood sign, drove past the tar pit, drove through Beverly Hills, saw Rodeo Drive, drove over to Malibu beach and then went and saw the massive port in Long Beach. Then on Sunday drove up to Arrowood Lake, that was a nice change from the flat low lands.

Going to have to keep an eye on these suggestions. I probably have to go to Lake Elsinore for work next month to check out a new exhibit and am hoping to get up into LA to see some family/friends that are there.

After a week and a half here...I can't say there's much that would keep me here longer than a couple days. Due to the traffic and segregation of class structure out here, I've found most people live their whole world within a 2-3 miles radius...seriously.

Dude, if you can spare the time, go to Vegas. Less traffic to deal with and a ton more fun. Idk, LA is cool to see and do the "touristy" thing once or twice, but then after that it gets a little old, honestly. Of course, I'm biased though cause I love the desert states haha. Also, lots of great shows in Vegas to go and watch!

Wrapping up 2 weeks out here...legitimately felt like there was about a week's worth of stuff to do out here...unless you're a surfer or shopper. Next time I'm going to venture out a little further. But I'm heading home in the morning.

I've been told the same thing from a guy I work with that transplanted here from LA. He says people that live in the city there don't know how do actually do anything. They've never had to fell a tree or shovel snow...

I drove from LA to Vegas on Wednesday and heading back to NC right now, the drive was easy and only about 3.5 hours from where my hotel in Rancho Cucamonga was. Certainly worth the drive...
