Losing oil pressure?

I've got a 94 grand cherokee 4.0l, i swamped it about a week ago and when i got everything fixed and cleaned i started it up and it was running fine. I took off down the road and about a mile later the oil pressure dropped out and it started running hot. I was told the oil sending units on these things were very easily broke so i replaced it and the thermostat hoping to get rid of the overheating but the oil pressure is still dropping and its running hot. I'm bout tired of messing with it because i've tried everything i know to do, so please help get me back in the mud. Thanks :confused:KEVIN

Didnt drive it at all before changing cause it had to be pulled home. I flushed the motor and everything, the pressure is fine as long as it is at idle but when you go to drive it the op drops.

Oil pressure is comes from the bearings in the engine, with both the problems I'd say there is problem in the head.

Thats what i was told by someone else but they told me i would be loosing quiet a bit of power and what little bit i did drive it the piece of :poop: seemed to run as normal, but you may be right. Im just gonna try to keep looking deeper and wait for more responses and try anything that sounds promising. Thanks for the help....

Oil pumps usually have a pressure relief valve that could be stuck open, causing low pressure. I would imagine it would show at idle though....

Clogged oil filter? (sh*t happens when a motor sits for a while - sludge)

Have you manually checked the oil pressure?

If oil pressure is low while manually checking it, the engine may be FUBAR. The high temp could have came from lack of lubrication, not a malfunctioning cooling system. You should have been able to hear the engine noise if that was the case....

If oil pressure is OK with manual check, then odds are the dash guage isn't working properly (it happens). Also you have an issue with the cooling system, not oil Pressure.

I did check the pressure manually and it was fine until i drove it about a mile. There is not any loss of power or motor sounds that would make me think it was a motor issue but honestly thats all it could be cause i replaced t stat and radiator, the water pump is good and all other possible problems have been narrowed down and ruled out so i'm just gonna let it sit for now and if anyone can give me anymore ideas let me know, thanks again KEVIN
