yesterday my wife and I went to visit family and like a 100 times before we left the dogs out in the yard. We have 3 German Shepard’s and 3 Mini Dachshunds It’s fully fenced with a covered porch, food water, and a big doghouse too. When we got home it was pouring and as we pulled in and the headlights shined onto the side porch we noticed that one of our little girls (Belle, a Black and Tan Dappled Mini Dachshund) was not standing on the porch waiting patiently as they all always do. We went in the house and out to the side porch to let them in and we were missing one of the crew. We found her out in the yard dead and half eaten. Judging by the marks it was from a bird of prey. I have noticed a large owl hanging around again after I had dispatched the last one a few months back. Like I said the dogs are out constantly and it has never been an issue until last night. My heart is empty as I think about her being killed and we were off enjoying ourselves. I’m so lost without her cause she was so energetic and full of life at just over a year old. I just don’t want to human today..... I failed her....

Very sorry to hear this. You definitely did not fail her. Fact is, you gave her a great life. No deed so pure will ever go unnoticed or be forgotten. Nature itself doesn't play by the same rules as we do. What happens in it just sort of does. It is tough to accept that some times. I know it too well myself.

Aww man that sucks. It sounds like the crew is well taken care of, and it is not your fault. It's the price we pay for keeping and caring for our four legged buddies. We lost two of ours last year. The first was a Pom and my shadow. He somehow got out of the fence and got hit. And the second one, she had to be put down because of bladder cancer. It's sucks how short their lives are compared to us, but the love and joy they bring is unconditional and huge. RIP Belle. You didn't fail her, it's not your fault.

Dang. Understanding the circle of life has always been easy for me, never bothered me. But its hard not to chew on it for awhile when the going isnt peaceful. That sucks!

Me too. Growing up on a farm and being in the military I have come to have a very good understanding of life and death but it is just hard when the little ones are so close and dependent on you. Like having kids with fur. Gonna miss her for sure!!
