Many of the DC sites have some type of on-location power generation, but it is often for short term needs. Others have built solar and wind farms to try and offset some of the power load, but to that point, none of the DCs today are remotely as large as the ones to come. The large players are talking that there could be 10 - 2.5+ Gigawatt facilities built in the US over the next 5-10yrs. The amount of fiber being placed across the US to connect these sites is pretty crazy, at the moment. Microsoft just announced that their first AI site in GA will use a closed looped cooling tower to run the facility. Not sure how well that will work, but I do know they have been continually reducing the water requirements they say they will need at the 5 DC locations planned for Catawba County. I suspect that those mega sites will end up build their own power generation too, if needed. Money isnt really a concern to these companies. They are purchasing land in places that have secure and available power, but if that becomes a hurdle, they will figure out how to generate it.
