Ive been thinking about this and it bothers me.I understand accidents happen but you are a k9 cop... You have a dog partner every day it's nothing new. I bet he didn't forget his phone!
I believe @jeepinmatt and I know of the exact scenario you almost experienced actually happen unfortunately. I don't remember but I don't think she suffered any criminal charges but I can't imagine the guilt she lives with every day. That's why it's hard to decide whether to be angry or sad. A smart man once said something that has stuck with me ever since... "The older I get, the more gray everything is" life isn't as black and white as it seemed when I was younger. His name rhymed with JonIve been thinking about this and it bothers me.
Like you I understand accidents happen. I'm always horrified when you hear the story of a kid left in a car. But I'm also cautious because I almost did the same when my oldest was young. He slept I drove right past the sitter and took him to the jobsite with me... before realizing I was a dumbass...Ive often been terrified by what could have been. So I have a ton of Grace for accidents.
When a parent has an accident they are without exception - as far as I can tell - charged and convicted of negligent homicide or other such charges...and I get it.
Now when ever a bad guy shoots or hurts a K9 he is charged with assaulting a police officer. By that logic, shouldnt this deputy be charged with killing a law enforcement officer? I mean the logic bridge is pretty tight..
