There still are stores where you can get stereo components but you need a big wallet. There is one I’ve been to in Charlotte unless they closed. Don’t remember the name though.

There is still a Radio Shack in Newland, NC. I haven’t been in it, only driven by it.
Also, I haven’t used a 555 Timer since engineering school in the late 90s early 2000s, but that brought back memories of some late frustrating nights in the lab.

random factoid of the day.
The infamous "triple 5" was invented in the early 70s... the company that designed it was severely budget limited and didn't patent it. Thats part of why it became so pervasive so quickly, other companies copied the idea and made variants .
Imagine if they had - what a cash cow.
