Hey guys,

This is my second Wrangler, first was a '93 YJ and now a '04 TJ.

Had to jumpstart the 04 yesterday and now it has a low/ no idle when it is stopped. The 93 never gave this sort of issue and was jumped many many times.

Thanks!

Sounds liek the alternator may be going out

battery? Got a 00 XJ. Had trouble doing a hot start after less than 10 miles traveled. Idle was low, ran ruff for a few minutes. Finally wouldn't start at all. Jump start & low idle & running rough for short term. Alternater checked good. Battery would charge up & show full charge. The battery would die & not start jeep without help. New battery, starts & runs like a champ. I think I read somewhere the coumputer will act stupid if it dosn't have proper voltage.

Battery. I've seen it in several. I've run the battery down in a Grand Cherokee before, doing a stereo install. When jumped off, I had to keep my foot on the pedal for several minutes before the battery had enough charge to keep it running at idle. When my brother's XJ started doing that, it was consistent. If jumped first thing in the morning, he had to keep it revved for a while before it would idle. Then one day it just wouldn't. Battery had gone south.

Chrysler vehicles are notorious for needing to let the computer relearn after the battery dies or is disconnected. Crank it up and hold it at about 800-1000 rpm with your foot for a few minutes then switch the ac on if you have it and repeat. Then cut it off and wait a few seconds. Restart and see if it will idle then. That's what I do at work when this happens.

I'd find out why the battery died though and fix that issue or you'll be doing that relearn a lot.
