LQ4 gurus, starting problems...

Buggy doesn't seem to want to start. Started just fine last week. This week, no go...

It'll turn over and fire just a second then will quit just as quickly. Doesn't even get above 400rpm when it half-ass fires and cuts out just as quickly, like in 1 second.

Thoughts? I don't have a scanner, so I'm SOL there.

Check engine light hasn't come one, but I'm not completely sure its working.


Any initial ideas?

Its never had a problem before. Started up just fine last week. This week, nothing. Its sat in the same spot since last week. Nothings changed, so I'm clueless.

That is on my list. I'm checking tonight with a scaner to see if there are any codes that come up.

if not, then I'll check the pump. I can hear the pump running same as usual, though...

Getting spark?

It'll start without a cam position sensor, but IIRC it will take a while. crank position sensor fail will lead to a no-start condition.

Do you smell fuel out the tailpipe (or see it if you crank with a spark plug out?)

sounds like fuel pump.

Thats the same way mine acted when the pump crapped out. I was still getting fuel to the rail, just not the volume and pressure needed.

I have a borrowed scan tool. I'm going to check it out tonight. If I find nothing, only guess would be a fuel pump and/or filter
