Im gettin down toward the end of the LS swap in my wifes YJ and lookin for some thoughts/opinions on exhaust and fuel pump options.I went w a set of block hugger headers not so much for the perf aspect but for clearence issues, the stock truck manifolds would not fit between the frame rails. The problem is room,im running a ds drop 241 and there is just enuf room between the case/frame for a pipe, but all my fuel lines go down that side of the frame. The initial plan was to run a external frame mounted pump but its gonna be kinda close to where Im thinkin the muffler will need to go.I could fab some kind of shield to go over the pump to deflect the heat and or wrap the muffler on that side,or Novak offers a kit that puts the pump in the tank(mine was carbed originaly) but its another $100 compared to the pump I was gonna use.At this point whats another $100.I like the thought of a easily accessible pump but dont like the thought of cookin a fuel pump.Borla offers a two in two out muffler and that would work on the ps w a crossover pipe somewhere, but IMO that would kinda kill any perf comin from the headers. So whos been here and done that or have some insight??? The jeep has a 14bolt rear,w the stock trac bar and will probably wind up w a anti wrap bar so there gonna be alot goin on under it.

I'd bring the exhaust from the driver's side over and make a Y on the passenger's side and then run a single 3" out the back or wherever you want it to exit. That would get the exhaust away from your fuel lines and you'd be good to go. A single 3" will actually out flow most dual setups and then you only need one muffler, which is cheaper and takes up less room than two. Chances are, those block huggers are only 1.625 primaries and if they're 14 gauge, they're only 1.5" inside diameter which really doesn't do much for performance, so I wouldn't really worry about it too much. This is basically what I had in mind for my buddy's TJ/5.3 swap.

As for the pump, as long as it gives the pressure and flow, I'd use what you have. Are you running a return or returnless fuel rail setup?

Might as well just use the pump you have. I'm trying to imagine the underside of a YJ in my head and I really think you'll have to Y them together unless you wanted to run side pipes....which would be completely badass :D I don't care what anybody says! :huggy:

That exhaust run is what I will do on my CJ, But, CJs ran the exhaust down the drivers side, probably due to the D20 transfer case. And they offset the gas tank, to the passenger side, to give clearance for the single exhaust. Is the YJ set up different? Does the D300 set to the right or left?

Side pipes are a big negatorie. Its has 38.s TSL's on it so it would be kinda hard to get in/out of it wo gettin burnt.I guess I need to get it running and take it and see what the muffler guys recommend, but Im leanin heavy toward one muffler.I think the restriction of one muffler will be counter productive to the headers but like you said their probably wasnt a whole lot of gain there to start with and I went with them for convience not perf.

A 300 is psd but im usin a dsd case. The orig exhaust was on the ps.

I was definitely joking about the side pipes

OK; so I guess the YJ had a frame change or something, to clear on ps side. Sounds like you've got it thought out!

I have dual coming off the headers straight back and exiting inside the leaf above the tire on my YJ. I trimmed the tip back far enough that the exhaust won't touch the spring or the tire under compression.

Let me know if you want me to snap a pic or 2
