never seen something like this (the boss sticking out with the rust on it), it looks removable or to be an insert. The bearing does fit it, it just looks strange. This vehicle came from the factory with a 4L80E / I put a 700R4 behind it recently and now converting to a 5 speed so I need to know whats up. flex plate and spacer to still install btw, IIRC the early model flex plate spacer is just a doughnut spacer and has nothing to do with this doohicky.

Jim, thx. Peek between those holes in the flex plate and thats the oil pan that you sold me years ago

Yep. Flex-plate = automatic. Flywheel = manual

yeah, I chewed them up trying to get it off. I think theres green locktite in there. got all new hardware sitting there on the bench with the manual setup.

With a short crank LS motor, the pilot bearing goes in the larger hole in the crank. Long crank motors used a crappy little needle bearing that went way deeper in the crank and failed frequently....I had two come apart on me before I just swapped to a solid bronze pilot bushing. It wasn't long after I swapped in a newer 6.0 with a short crank.

Should look like this when it's together.
