LSx knock sensor protection

What are you guys doing to protect the knock sensors in the LSx motors. Looks easy for crud to get down in the holes. My friend keeps telling me to make 'mounds' of silicon around the caps to keep mud/water from rolling in. Can you just silicon the caps down and call it done?
 
there is actually supposed to be a chunk of foam in the area below the intake to keep junk from collecting in there.

Doesn't do much for water intrusion, but if you've got water that high, you have other worries.
