Just wondering what people feel is an acceptable temp range for a lt1 motor. When should we be looking to shut it down to cool off. The motor is out of a 94 buick roadmaster appox. 50k.
Thanks
Jody

GM designed most newer engines to run in the 195 to 230 range. The PCMs are programed to kick the fans on at 225 to 232. I run my 350 TBI around 210 to 220 and havent had any issues.

^ sounds about right. 190-200 or so for cruising temps, but in stop and go, or trail use, temps in the 220-230 range would not concern me one bit. As long as the fans kick in and the temps start to come down you are good-to-go

The PCM starts pulling timing at 260...

but I like to run 'em at 190-200 to keep underhood heat down.

temps

Does anyone pull their temps from the thermastat like the pcm does? I understand that the actual temps may be alot higher than what the temp gauge pulling from the cylinder head shows. It would make since to me since I noticed a huge drop in power once the temp gauge hit the 225 range. I think actuall temps must have reached the 260 mark and timing was pulled down.
thanks
Jody
