I have a 1984 M1008 Chevy 1 1/4-ton pickup. I was thinking of putting air bags on the rear to help with spring sag while towing. The truck is stock as far as lift, but I do have 37'' Goodyear’s on it and use the truck off road a lot. The question I have is will the airbags be damage or interfere with the wheel travel? If yall have any information it would be a great help. Thanks

Air Bags

I dont know about all air bag systems, but I had a Load Leveler system on my 2006 Dodge Ram and I tore the hose and fitting off the top of the bag crossing a deep ditch. The bags didn't seem to be long enough not to hurt wheel travel. They worked great for towing , but not what I would use on an offroad rig unless you are willing to run limiting straps.

Stock 6.2 diesel? I'm not sure what you'd haul that's heavy enough to warrant the use of air bags that the 6.2 would want to pull while turning 37s. On second thought...it'd probably do it. Just not setting any records.

However, go for the air bags. Should be easy enough to use and they work from what I've heard. The rear springs don't flex enough on those to really worry about tearing up the bags and such. I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to really mess them up. I'd give it a shot.

Thanks for the info on the air bags. As far as towing it is only a 25' car trailer but I also have a slip in bed camper. With the camper, Trailer and a 4000# blazer you are right no records being set but it gets the job done. the 456 gears helps out alot.(6.5 turbo in near future:driver:)
