I really want to get my Jeep re painted....I would really like to do a Desert sand color.....How much prep work is needed for them to do a decent job? I don't have a place to really sand it down and primer it or anything....how much does the price go up if you get them to do the prep work and shoot on a "custom" color? Any cheaper if you just stick with the same color?
My girlfriends Xj was painted by Maaco right before she bought it and the paint still looks awesome 5 years later.

In my experience, if you dont have any huge dents they prep it for you, primer, and paint for like 400.00. That is a price they had in New Mexico, not sure what it is here, or if it differs. It will most likely have whatever lil dings that are not included in that price because they will never do more than they need. It will look awesome from 10 feet, and good when your standing next to it, but you get what you pay for and will most likely not be perfect. All in all they do really nice stuff for what they charge, and a great alternative if you have neither the means, nor the equipment to do it yourself.
Just my .02 cents.

I am really not looking for a hot rod paint job....I just have alot of sun damage and clear coat peeling that irritates me...I know this is a jeep, but I still like the paint to look as good as I can get it.
How are they with painting the car a different color?

Shoot me a text. 7049896833 worked there for 3yrs

Since were on the topic...
The hood on my wifes ZJ is peeling. Everything else looks great. Is it worth taking to Maaco, or should I take it to somewhere more reputable? Same questions regarding prep work. Its pretty much dent free.

the only one i can speak for is the Covedale location(matthews, nc). they do a upsale on everything.... straight up sand, scuff n shoot single stage paint is the $2-300 stuff you see. with that out of the way they use high quality paint for basecoat/clearcoat jobs. same tinting cards etc... you would never be able to tell the hood was painted... in most cases unless the rest of vehicle was aged.
now on the upsale thing its
$50 color change most cases
$10 per jamb (if color changes)(doors, under hood etc)
$50 for a extra coat of clear
$50 a panel to do extra work. meaning if paint is beyond refinishing and needs to be stripped....

ive painted anything from brotha Joes caprice that him and unc did the body work on for $300

to a show quality corvette and several others that have spent $4-5k on a paint job. yes at Maaco.

these are all prices from when i worked there. may have changed some. any questions pm me or contact the charlotte location 7048451600 and ask for Frank or Dickie and tell them Justin sent you.

I've seen Maaco paint jobs that had hair, dust, dirt, leafs, bugs, etc., had overspray, poor masking, runs, drips, fisheyes, etc. But, I've also seen some that were great. Like any paint job, a good portion of the final quality is in the prep. Spend the $ and time on prep and the same quality paint and masking job as the $300 jobs will result in better finish results...

I have had them paint 4 cars for me. (2) CRX's, (1) Hardbody and now my Toyota. My Yota has some dust in it here and there but the others looked great. I used their Urethane single stage paint job on all the vehicles. I will try to post some pics of the Nissan and Yota. All they do is a 400 dry sand and primer/sealer and paint. I always do my own prep work before I go there. I am more than please considering it is a very cheap paint job. I say go for it. But thats me.
