I would really like to get my jeep re painted....How do you guys feel about maaco? now before you guys start bashing...my GF bought her first jeep back in 07 and it had been painted at Maaco and 4 years later....paint looks GREAT! not peeling, no fading or anything...and she NEVER takes care of it!

They have a special for $279 right now..how do you guys feel?

I've used them before. The paint job is usually pretty good. Mine had overspray on the radiator & tires. If your car is in good shape (no rust or dents), the paint will look better and last longer as they don't do a lot of prep work. $275 is for their basic paint job. Anything else like rust repair, collision damage, etc., is extra and adds up fast.

Are there any hidden fees as far as just getting it painted? best to stick with the same color? how bad would it be to change colors? Car is black?

It all depends on the location. My sister had her car painted at a Maaco in Durham and it was terrible. Overspray EVERYWHERE (even on the seat, and the car wasn't even jambed) and the paint peeled off of spots after about 2 years.

My dad had his minivan painted at the Maaco in Cary and they did an awesome job. They stripped all the peeling paint down to metal and primed and painted it. Came out fantastic and it still looks good after like 3 years.

This is interesting... do they prep the vehicle for painting or do you have to do most of the sanding, etc, before you take it to them to insure they aren't painting over dirt, etc.??? I've heard all sorts of tails about this.

For me I would not care what shop I take it to, I would want to do as much prep work as I can to insure a better quality finish product. Even if that means in the parking lot taping up windows and lights to insure they do not get painted.

Good to hear Cary Maaco is good. Was planning on having parts painted to match the rest of the truck.

If you're in the Raleigh/Cary area I'd recommend going and talking to the Cary Maaco on 54. Mike (pretty sure he is the owner) is very informative and up front about what they do and how they do it. The customer service there is excellent and was a selling point for me.

Some friends of mine run a shop, they lease the building from a guy who is a car dealer. A few weeks ago he had a car painted at maaco, he got whatever the current special was. Maaco did a horrible job, there prep work was non existant, and they even painted over bird shit instead of cleaning it off.
A guy who used to paint for my friends used to work at maaco, he said they didn't even tape up windows, they had a wax they would rub over the glass, paint, and then scrape it off with a razorblade after painting.

Orange peel is awful on the maaco jobs ive seen. And Recon id be very suprised if they could come with in 50 feet of matching a color. Buddy of mine has a grudge car that he gets painted there often so people dont recognize it. He scratched a fender and they couldnt even match their own color.

^^^Not at the maaco in question though

i painted at maaco for 2.5yrs and we turned out jobs equal to the local lexus dealership... one of the salesmen at the dealership actually had us paint his 240sx instead of dealer bodyshop.... if you bring in a 85 caprice that "you and your uncle" did all the body work on, and just "want it sprayed" yes it just gets sprayed for $300bucks or whatever... couple more i did below... and on facebook under charlotte maaco

nevermind the crazy redneck...

my jeep is black...what if I wanted like a dark charcoal color done? too much to ask from Maaco?

most people have had bad experiences with maaco. in charlotte i can only refer one. i hear gastonia is good and seems carys not bad. take it to one of the three and ask to see previous jobs. look at cars in the parking lot already done etc..

It all just depends on what kind of painter they have rolling through that week/month. Ive seen NICE jobs done at a few but just comes down to whos throwing the paint at the time.
